I write to as an ardent viewer of your show Mahi Way. When Mahi way began it was assumed that this show will offer us a glimpse into life of a morbidly obese girl and her quest to live life on her own terms negating the societal norms in the process. This show spoke to me on more than one level as I am a real life Mahi. I am obese, around the same age group and I am career oriented. I loved this show because for once it showed my side of the story to the world, it told the world that I am a human just like them and not a caricature destined to be part of a circus. Forget the world it gave my extended a family a glimpse of how I think and what life means when everyone and their mother has free unwanted advice on losing weight.
However the recent episodes have taken the realistic approach of Mahi Way and turned it a fairytale gaga land. The reality remains that size zero is in and size 18 is sidelined. In such a scenario as a viewer it is impossible to digest the fact that a man like Ishaan or for that matter Shiv would fall for Mahi. I was hoping that your writing and scripting would answer this very question when Mahi asks Shiv, "Why does Ishaan want to marry ME", sadly the writing disappointed me when it took the safe and easy route by answering, "Just because! There is no reason, you cannot choose who you love"…REALLY? Do you want your audience to believe this after giving some brilliant realistic episodes. In reality do you expect Mahi to find a Shiv or Ishaan? Do Shiv or Ishaan exist for a size 18? More than likely the bigger the size higher the chances that one has to settle in life and marry a boy from Bhatinda chosen by mommy dear.
My question to you is this then, Why this change and abandonment of realism? And if you truly believe that there exists a Shiv or Ishaan for women of Mahi's size then please sign me up for that list or else stop selling candy floss dreams in the name of realism.
Yours truly,
A real life Mahi
