Thank you so much, my dear Ranou, for being so good for my morale every time!

I am very pleased to know that Rudra's mother is to resurface soon. She is, I understand, a very well know TV actress, and so I could not believe that she would have come on board without having something substantive to do.

My dear Preethi,

Thanks a million!

What would I do without you to like my own favourite passages as much as I do, or perhaps more? Sometimes, a line comes out just right, and you feel content about it. But what makes it special is when someone else feels the same. I still remember that you were the only one to spot my reference to Pallas Athena wrt Katharine (that was before we saw her!😉), but here, methinks you have some company!

I tweeted Utkarsh to tell him that after watching this exquisite scene, I had half forgiven him (for killing off Maimuyi so abruptly), and he replied that the conception and the writing of the whole scene was done by Aniruddh Pathak (they seem to call him Asian Pathak, for some reason).

Incidentally, I have just learnt that besides Utkarsh, Pathak and Gautam, one Zachary Coffin, who plays Greyerson ( I have been misspelling that name as Grierson, going by the way it sounded onscreen) is also following me on Twitter. Obviously not for anything about China or Pakistan, but only for my Mahakumbh post alerts!😉

Brilliant analysis of an eventful week .

The crowning glory of the week for me was the scene between Mai Mui and Rudra. It just doesn't get any better than this. The acting was superb and I was awestruck with the misty backdrop, the faint lights on the banks of the Triveni.
Perhaps even better were your words describing the scene:

" and then by the smoky blue ambience and the stretches of bare, dull yellow sand at the Sangam, the perfect interface between the world of mortals and the world of those who have passed on."... Just beautiful Shyamala

PS. If the writers give us such scenes with Seema a few more times through this serial then I can accept her seemingly hasteful death in this show. For I think her visiting and guiding Rudra from the afterlife will be very effective and brilliant move by the writers.

Wow! That's one impressive Twitter following! And why not? It's not everyday that we get to read the penmanship of a nuclear physics major, former ambassador to the Netherlands, with an intimate knowledge of English and indian classic literature now do we?

Very clever, my dear, and decidedly flattering!😉😉

But you know, they follow me because Utkarsh, who fell in love with my daily posts, on his FB page, about one particular track in his DKD Mahadev, called the Jalandhar track, in May-June 2013 (for just 5 weeks) , has told them I am writing about Mahakumbh now.

They are all artists, and they can never have enough of genuine and well-reasoned praise of their baby. I got to know Ashutosh Gowariker the same way after I wrote to him about his Jodhaa Akbar, and Neeraj Pandey after I told him why I loved his A Wednesday, a splendid film in case you have not seen it yet. He is a very bright young man, and he even sent me the film DVD with his compliments. Very sweet . I was glad to see that his latest. Baby, has had very good reviews.

My dear Shruthi,

Thank you, my dear. I am pleased that you liked this one.

You would have seen my comment on your Maya thread, for I saw your response, with which I agree. There has to be a pretty drastic change in Maya's characterisation, otherwise she will be a total drag on Rudra and his mission. So it stands to reason that she will change.

My comments here are in italics.

Very well analyzed Shymaladi. I guess my intrapration of Maya I have already given in another short thread. Same is the case with Maimui's discussion with Rudra. Since you have already discussed this scene in very detail in your post I am not going into it as I completely agree to your analysis

My key takeaways in last week are this
- Pandey death. You can call me a saddist. But to be frank I was happy the way Pandey died a very painful and tortured death. He deserved every bit of it for the deaths he gave to Udiya Baba and Maimui. Something like proving Karma does come back. I would say it was really a break from normal TV serials where the villians always gets easy punishment and it only the hero-heroine who suffers.

Hardly a sadist, my dear, and I do not think he would have suffered anything like as much as he deserved. I would have liked to have him subjected to ALL the ghastly punishments periodically listed by Thappadiya Mai. He, and the 'Veshes, all of them, for each is worse than the other. If you are a Harry Potter fan, do see my response above to Sandhya, which covers this point.
- Tapadiya Mai - Well hats of to Ketaki Dave because she stole the scene where she talks about how she has been abused by her son and DIL. Yes it was good to know she took revenge. I would say another breakaway from TV shows. Usually good characters forgive even if they are trampled saying mera beta, mera bahu or reverese mere saas, mere pati of course which side is goodness. After all they portrayed a human being who feels, who reacts when treated badly. Mai was a human who took revenge and her heart is able to see the goodness in Rudra, and the affection craving Maya. I am loving her characterization.

I agree completely, and I wish she had set fire to their house while she was about it!
- Coming to weak Garudas. Yes Rudra and Charles are weak. I mean not physically but if you look Rudra is emotionally torn between his mission and his relations. Promo clearly says what is my purpose . is it to save Amrit or is it to save my loved ones. Charles woh to Maya mein dhooba hain. I mean physical pleasures attract him, money, women and wine. He is lost in worldly pleasures. Both these Garud's have to overcome their weakness. One emotional and other physical. I guess the story line will mostly revolve around how these 2 Garud's overcome their weakness. Because unless they do, there is no hope.

I have a different take on this one, Shruti. For one thing, Charles does not seem to have any real weakness for women or wine. He is only fooling around, not getting enmeshed in these vices. In fact both these have always been on his NO list. Secondly, I doubt if Rudra is emotionally weak, though he is emotional. Every saviour faces one dilemma or the other, but if it comes to a crunch, he will choose the mission, I feel, and will grieve for the loss of Maya, but he will try his best save both her and the amrit.
Greison-Balivesh- Well these people will double cross at one point or other.
Katherine- I strongly believe this girl knows more than what she shows herself to be. She is not the starry eyed foreingner. She behaves like it to ensure attention does not come to her.I agree

Frankly the actors do not act as well as you write abt their acting...👏...I agree with you that Maya could be an illusion only...just to tempt Rudra or to place hurdles in his way but then why she is going to tell reality of her Nanu and Baliwesh on monday as per precap..Is not she making it easy for Rudra to find out evil ppl?

Anyway Kuba being a rakshak is excellent point but do you think he has any role left since Shivanand has come back to India and most probably Rudra will find him...Kuba is christian so why would he come for Kumbh?

I find Charles and Maya very boring...They should have been paired together...Thapaddiya mata is very interesting and I too think she might be a rakshak...I am learning so much about religious tales as I have never been interested in them...

I am sorry but I am not really involved with serial at all and find it very difficult to write anything abt it...I am sorry to disappiont you Shyamala...

Shymaladi what I meant for Charles was he is more a playboy type. I mean he doesn't take anything seriously. No questions asked as long as his basic needs are met. Money and good life he is interested to do anything. His way.
I mean what type of Rakshak is that. He has to be made purposeful. Rather than working for someone he has to think. He has to take decision. What to be done, what not to be done. For that he may have to let go of this goody goody life that he is enjoying. Can he do that for the larger good.
Coming to Rudra he will choose mission only. But there will be a deep pain and that deep pain sometimes can make him take irrational decisions which may not result in saving Amrit.
I will be able to explain more on these aspects when story unfolds a bit more. Then maybe I will be able to give examples based on behaviours.

My dear Shreya,

You know, what pleases me the most, after spending painful hours at the laptop to get those 6 pages - no less, in Georgia 11 pt. and with narrow margins!😉 - out, is to have something I wrote connect so perfectly with an informed reader like you. And Preethi, as you can see from my response above to her. Thank you, my dear. I liked that line myself, and was pleased with it, which does not happen all the time. But it is when you find it beautiful, and others do so too, that I am truly content.

Yes, Maimuyi has arthritis. You could see it even in the scene of Chandrabhan's anniversary, when she is hobbling along the path leading to his bust. I am a trained analyst - every good diplomat has to be one - and I was taught to pay attention to the details. Of course there is a difference between analysing Sino-US relations and dissecting Mahakumbh, but the principle is the same!

As for Maya, I gave my take on her in this post, and I do not think she is the kind of Maya you are thinking about. She is likely to be more of a drag on Rudra, either because he loves her or because he feels, once he has married her, that she is his responsibility. In the end, the mission has to prevail, but her presence will make it that much harder for Rudra. And I repeat (please also see my response above to Shruthi), I do not think he is to be one of the 2 weaker garudas. He is the primus inter pares, after all!

Re: the Balivesh- Greyerson duo (see note below re: the altered spelling!), I am quite sure the latter has a number of hidden cards up his sleeve. It could hardly be otherwise. They will, however, split up the work, with Greyerson tackling Shivanand and Devesh-Balivesh soft-soaping Rudra and if need be getting Maya married to him.

The problem for Balivesh is likely to be twofold. One, Rudra knows the truth about the 1989 attack on the Shri Santh Panth ashram from his daadi, and Balivesh has no clue about that. My guess is that this newly devious Rudra will pretend to go along with Balivesh., at least for a while, to find out what he is going to do.

Two, Balivesh does not have the second Book, the crucial one, nor does he know what it contains. Greyerson knows about its contents from Shivanand, but note that he has carefully avoided briefing Balivesh about it.

If Rudra jibs and refuses to co-operate, or if Shivanand does the same, I think Balivesh will threaten to kill Maya, to get Rudra to fall in line, and Greyerson will threaten to kill Rudra to get Shivanand to fall in line. That is my best guess about their Plan B. Let us see what actually happens.

NB: As for the new spelling,
I have just learnt that besides Utkarsh, Pathak and Gautam, one Zachary Coffin, who plays Greyerson ( I have been misspelling that name as Grierson, going by the way it sounded onscreen) is also following me on Twitter. Obviously not for anything about China or Pakistan, but only for my Mahakumbh post alerts!😉

Aunty, brilliant post!

You have described the scene between Maimui-Rudra very beautifully. I loved these lines - and then by the smoky blue ambience and the stretches of bare, dull yellow sand at the Sangam, the perfect interface between the world of mortals and the world of those who have passed on.

I am glad I am following Mahakumbh with you. I missed out that Maimui had arthritis. See, that's the thing about your posts, that they don't overlook the minute details. You have a keen ear and a good memory Aunty.

About Maya, I don't know why she is called Maya. Is it deliberate or otherwise? But if it is deliberate, I think it is a wrong choice. We attribute the name 'Maya' to the Primordial Goddess, who creates Maya, but is not Herself in Maya. But the character on the show is swimming in a sea of Maya. I wonder how the makers plan to use a confused lady to create illusions? If they do, first and foremost they need to resurrect Maya.

Dadi - Surekha Sikri is a treat to watch. And thanks for reproducing her dialogues in your post. I was under the impression that she must have had the amrit running in her veins. So Patanjali Yoga Sutra proved to be her Amrit! I am hoping we have many more of Dadi's interesting revelations about Vedic Sutras.

I am still not clear on how Balivesh-Grierson plan to use Rudra. Looks like they are not looking out for the other Rakshaks. And at this point, they are not even aware that Charles and Thapadiya Mai are also Rakshaks. Wonder what their back-up plan is in case Rudra doesn't side with them, given Shivanand's message to Rudra in the promo to protect the amrit even if it means death of his near and dear ones? The Rakshaks will descend down to the Mahakumbh, and fate will organise for it. Atleast Dr. Rao is using technology to track people, but this B-G duo don't even seem to have a proper plan in place. Or is it that Grierson has not yet revealed all his cards to Balivesh?

My dear Ela,

You could never disappoint me, and if you are switching off Mahakumbh, so be it. It is a pity as far as I am concerned, and surely Maimuyi & Daadi would continue to be excellent, but I would not want you to spend time on something that bores you just because I write pages and pages about it! But still even when your mind is not on it, see what a neat crack you have made about Charles and Maya! Delightful.

Well, Kuba may have been a Catholic 12 years ago and might still be one, but they can surely find some rationale for getting him to Prayag. He could be a journalist writing a series of articles about the Mahakumbh, or a research assistant to Dan Brown for his next thriller! And once he is here, the ancient secret will suck him in and he will become a full blown rakshak. Howzzat?😉

I expect that you will be watching Asoka on Colours from tonight, if only for Siddharth as the young Asoka. So will I, but I will NOT be doing any posts on it. Doing weekly analyses here is as much as I can manage with my kaput knee!😉
