For me Arjun represents humanity's constant trek towards perfection. He didn't have any special by birth power given by Indra. Whatever he achieved, he achieved through the sweat of his brow (to quote Bible Genesis book). Everyone around him understood that. So those who valued hard work (Drona, Bheeshma) loved him and those who could not match his work ethics was jealous of him.

Even today we can relate to him because of his achievements thru hardwork. Just like I relate to Batman than any other comics superheroes. Just my POV.
