What I have understood while reading MB is that a woman marrying more than one man was not a big deal then (though we often don't find a princess doing so) and who to marry was finally the woman's choice only. So when Draupadi married five men, it was with her full consent. She loved her all husbands, till DS happened. I don't think any woman with a little self-respect would love her husband after an event like DS. So later she only dragged herself through them, which very rarely came out. This is my understanding. I am not sure how much of this could be correct. So when someone says Draupadi loved only Arjuna, question arises why did she marry all five men then? Only to get Arjuna??? Well, that does not make her a "battered woman" as she had full freedom to refuse other four. Instead, that reduces her only to a nymphomaniac (which was the word I forgot then. So had to use wh*re. Sorry)
What would people call a guy who sleeps with many women? Male wh*re???😆 And this Amar love of Arjuna only for Draupadi makes him that only. To me, this kind of view is equally insulting to both characters is what I meant.
Questions, I shall PM. No need to discuss here, I think.😊

Yes Jamy...likr I told Geetha...it all depends on wat assumptioms we make here.
If we assume she accepted willingly then this Ardi love can be slightly blasphemous.

But if she gave her consent bcoz of other issues then it could provide a tragic angle.

I am very confused myselg about the polyandry thing.
Yes it was not a taboo then...but also not very common. Nobody ever opposed it...slightly confusing for me.

I too dont have anything to prove Arjun loved Draupadi the most. Bcoz there is nothing to prove it.
However you see...men have this one advantage.
Men can marry again n again in the name of political alliance without their chatacter being questioned...

For example...wen Bajirao's dil saath mein dharkofies with Mastani n yet he still lives with Kashi...can we say he was a male-nymphomaniac? 😆
Or wen Akbar marries more Rajput princesses after his Amar Prem Gatha with Jodha...same question again?
Sorry...the feminist in me got excited...😆
You know me...

Personally I fel that this polyandry itself is an interpolation or atleast this extra love for Arjun is.

Reply to me in PM...

Finally managed to read this piece and i am just speechless right now. This is just BEAUTIFUL! I mean, every word, every phrase and every statement is so cautiously chosen and written down with utmost care. It is just a WOW! Right from the sarcastic remarks they threw on one another and their tones turning slowly gentle and more understanding. Their thoughts, their pains and every word they speak heavy with emotions. And in the end they finally are able to understand and respect each other and their opinions. From the beginning of drau thinking of her parth and expecting him to come ,to the the ending with karna understanding his wife's misery and those lines, beyond beautiful! It is just simply outstanding! 👏 Hats off!! ⭐️
PS-Do check out my works sometime too though i may not be as good as you. 😳 😛

As I had said earlier, this is a wonderful piece of writing.
This is an OS that has made me see both sides, a few things which I never truly believed in. I admit Karna's character has suffered in the epic, but I have always felt that a few things he did were unforgivable, unacceptable.
This OS has made me see both their sides, how the hardships they have both faced are so similar, and yet these two characters are so different.
I love the way you have sketched out both characters so beautifully, given both their sides, their thoughts equal weight.
I found familiarity in your thoughts and mine when I read about your perception of Kunti. A shrewd, political dowager. But yes, it is brilliant how you have presented views and counter views, defects and then the reason behind them, for each character.
I will refrain from venturing into the Arjun-Draupadi aspect to avoid any controversy or spark off another debate, but it feels so good to have people like yourself on the forum, who understand Draupadi's character so well. And yet, you manage to present Karna's character with such brazen honesty. It is an OS I wish would come true, because I feel their personalities somewhere have the same shades, somewhere they were both bound by circumstance. Also, the one thing which comes across so strikingly in this piece is how they realise each other's perspective, how they apologise to each other, and make an effort to understand each other's circumstance. This, I think is the best part.
It was lovely, Amrita di! Kudos to you for writing so magnificently!😊

Wow, I just stumbled upon your piece. And what a magnificent journey this turned out to be. A conversation between a man and a woman with all the hurt and resentment between them. A brilliant piece,

Thanks a lot dear...
This is one of the best comments I have got so far...
I guess in a long time...somebody realized the real reason behind the writing of this OS...
There is a lot of anguish...a lot of misunderstanding between the 2 characters n their fan groups...n this was a humble effort from my side to make people see the other side of the story. Both had their reasons for doing wat they did...though at times...unpardonable...but both have their perspectives.
I wanted in my own way to show the other side without pulling down any character beyond a certain extent...If you think I have suceeded...then I cant ask for anything more...

I know you love Draupadi...n despite that if I have been able to make you feel Karna's pain too through my OS...then I would consider my work to have succeeded to some extent...
And yes...the realization of the 2 characters about each other was a conscious decision...

Thanks for your appreciation and a bigger gratitude for trying to see the other side of the story...which is exactly wat I wanted my readers to see...
