This is my understanding:

Human body is composed of 5 elements - earth, fire, water, air and ether(akasha).
Purush/soul is part of Paramatam.
Behaviour is composed of Tamas, Rajas and Satvic gunas.
Prakriti(nature) and purush interacts and maya forms.
When Purush forgets itself in maya the cycle of birth and death happens.

Karya is just work/task. When one performs a task with result in mind, it becomes Karma. If you have attachment to the result of the task, it becomes Sakam Karm. If you do not have any attachment to the result, it is Nishkam Karm.
