Without laxmi there is no ornament, there is no clothes. Hence the effect.
Also Devdutt Pattnaik in Jaya writes, from gauri draupadi turns to kali.
This was also an aspect of that aside from her anger and fury.
gauri is benevolent, the giver of everything as well. They humiliated gauri, she took away her blessings from them.
I liked the thought behind this one.
This was literal representation of stripping the men present of their honour, their pride for their despicable behaviour.
