My first post on this forum, though I have been reading regularly & I truly am amazed by amount of different substories that this forum has got in to the light of all tracks so far. Plus the discussions are great as well.
Personal biggest 'likepoint' of Mahabharat is how it connect my kids & my mom & generates discussions & stories about it at home. My son loves waching Mahadev & now Mahabharat (in addition to Angrybirds & starwars & this & that ).. and I Love that!
I still remember how old 'mahabhaaaraaat... w/ shankhnaad & ..sri Krishna bharat Bharti' in Mahendra Kapur's voice used to fill up my Sunday morning as kid! It took me to read various versions of this epic from Amarchitrakatha to original Bhagvad Gita to various literary masterpieces with modern, bold viewpoints!
This mahabharat , too presents a quite different approach. Kind of not staying on path of original story though. Sure, super casting & impressive actors, grand sets & good locales is there but still ...
Few pointers: Honestly, Krishna as narrator was a surprise, I liked. (SRJain is perfect). But where is he these days??? And though initial episodes I found bit sketchy (screechy when tinywinny Amba was around, whale-ish fish jumping in valley river, overpushy Satyavati etc) ... they covered up with young Kurus- pandvas & kaurvas(just 3 they focus on- Duryodhan, Dushasan, Dushala).
My fav. consistent Characters so far have been- Krishna as Sutradhar, Shakuni, Pitamah Bhishma & Kunti.
This StarPlus Mahabharat is definitely made with direct/undirect/conscious/sub-concious/un-concious effort to hook new age kids to teens to youngAdults .
Say Hi5 if you agree with/ felt similar at the any of following:
- Or did you miss hearing "nahiiin..." when Kunti was thrashing her shayangriha...or Gandhari was ridiculed by her Patidev!! .. (A La Gopi vahu)
- Mama Shakuni.. from the time he was introduced as cliff hanger .. till date .. does he remind you of Jack sparrow? the Pirate of carrebian .. err. .gandhar! (Praneet Bhatt is my favoritest in this show so far- a perfect fit , fantastic potrayal)
- Dhritrashtra... did you miss hearing: a la sajid khan-Ranjit : "Eeehh... š" in the background... Doesn't he remind you of classic retro Ranjit when it comes to 'the villain-o-ka-Pitashri'
- Grown Up Yudhishthir š³... what happened Swastik? Why again ??? (now, if you were Navya fan/ viewer, you'll know what I am talking about ...) Why again this MuteMohan' again Tiwaribhaiyya?? Thought this good actor will get his due as Yudhishthir, jayeshtha Pandva.. but ..Oh well... but, oh why???
- Grown up Arjun ... Atta Boy! Shaheerbhai... You haven't let the chanel or PH down - so far. Though, raise your hand - if , post veena vaadan in front of earlier thanexpected +scarrierthanexpected Subhadra .. Arjun's reactions post Dhrit+sons outrage reminded totally of Navvya ka Anant. With open mouth ( I heard in mental bg anant saying .. woh.. main.. lekin.. papa/chacha...) .. Hope this improves. Along with stance in standing scenes! (a special 'gadgad' note here: Shaheer, You & Somya will always be my favorite-est & I always feel proud when you go places.)
- Subhadra... why oh- why .. oh whyš???? Bas!
- Grown Up Pandvas & Kauravas & Karna.. total 'bhai , bole toh : bhidu .. bas kya..? tiffs & turns.. huffs & puffs.. classic tale of Kektamaiyya's storybook: 'once upon a time in Hastinapur- Dobara'.
In future, they ill have many more such references-visual, contextual, memorial etc!
bahut scope hai in this Story wohi, soch kahin?! Tiwaribhaiyya +SittaronPlus 's interprtation mein!
Mahabharat... it indeed is a maha epic, with maha -effect on our culture, belief system.. and as they say it is about everything everyday life offers. A bit more sensitive approach & true to its essence depiction would be my choice!
