Its complicated😆...Actually he was very attached to his father and sister. He felt angry that they were asked for his sisters marriage who was extremely beautiful and talented to a blind man even if he was a prince of hastinapur...the result of that was his sister blinded herself as her duty, love, sacrifice and he felt that it was an insult and punishment to her and their father was heartbroken that he could not prevent the marriage and that his daughter had sacrificed her sight he was heartbroken which spolied his health and he died adding to the insult ...Shakuni felt after all this Dhritrashtra should have considered himself lucky for having married Gandhari...and showered her with love and affection..instead he ill treated her and made her unhappy and sad...
From his view - his family was broken, his sister got nothing she deserved - she lived a life of darkness and lack of affection and her husband was not king enough to make her queen a position which he thought she deserved...so Shakuni wanted revenge for the injustice, helplessness, his father's grief and his ultimate death...best laid plans...either he destroy the vansh or his nephew becomes king and his sister gets her due respect...at the end he got neither because his intentions were wrong ...thats justice.
Edited
As a part of that could be also that the Kuru(D &P) had imprisoned their family when they found out that gandhari was a widow to a goat before marrying dhritrashtra and the whole famil was imprisoned and starved and they all sacrificed so that Shakuni could live and revenge...but the time lines seem funky for it so I am not sure.

@bold: Yes that is exactly the reason why he was mad at Bhisma, and swore revenge! I didnot want to elaborate on the story😆.

This sister love is something I am hearing new. May be i need to revise Mahabharat again.🤔 Its been 12 years since i touched that book.😆
