There's this bestseller by Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni, which tells the Mahabharat from Draupadi's point of view.

I came across it two years back. And whoa, it got me! ⭐️
It's more like a novel, and goes on to explore some very interesting aspects.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has read the book?

I have read this book. one of my all time favourites.

Have read it.
Liked the book but the personalities of the epic were tragically altered.

Poetic License definitely, but stressing relation b/w Draupadi and Karna a bit too much for comfort

Ooh...I did. And I loved it, particularly because I read any work that provides a revisioning of a canon. The Mahabharata is a corpus in itself, but it was quite a delight reading it from a gender perspective.

And what about Pratibha ray's Yajnaseni? Another brilliant work on similar lines, but a vast difference in terms of approaching Draupadi's character.

Now thats a classy one - - awhole new dimension in the relations between Krishna and Krishnaa 😊

Haha, really? Yes, then I totally understand why you did not enjoy the book. If you were Bengali, I would have suggested for you to read Satninath's Bhaduri's analysis of Mahabharat characters. That is possibly the best analysis of them you will ever find, true to the original and wonderfully nuanced. Just like the book itself. Karna, I feel, is more of a favorite because while reading Mahabharat, I always felt that even the author had a bit of soft-corner for Karna himself. You will notice how his soft corner is evident in some of the passages. 😊 My favorite is both Karna and Krishna btw. I am not religious, and hence I try to understand Krishna as a highly complicated human being. He is one of the most fascinating characters. 😊

Well the analyses of Mahabharata characters by Nrisinghaprasad Bhaduri is also very good and detailed.

You may like to try it.

I have read both. And may I take the liberty of mentioning two other books:
1. Panchajanya(By Shri Gajendra Mitra)
this book has done justice to Karna's character and has explored the depth of this magnificent hero.
2. And Now Let Me Sleep(By Shri P. Kesavan Balakrishnan)
here the author Created Of His Own A Parallel Concept Revolving Around Draupadi And In Those Imaginary Threads He Fastened The Petal Of KarnaS Story.
