Since today was Amba's last appearance in the story, I'd take this opportunity to salute her. I've always been sympathetic towards her, despite knowing that during those times, women were prizes who were won or lost in battle. After all, it's not like either she or her sisters had a happy swayamvar or marriage.
Although I'm not a fan of mythological stories being altered for entertainment (my CNAT compositions notwithstanding 😈), I loved the way Amba was shown in this serial to confront not only Bheeshma but Satyavati as well. After all, her sisters were forced into this marriage, and after that, got widowed and had to have sons through the practice of niyoga. I loved Amba's acerbic retort to Satyavati on Monday when she questioned her on what had Hastinapur given her sisters.
I do think it tragic that Amba didn't get to see Bheeshma destroyed in that very birth. Also, if she was to just cause Bheeshma's death, as opposed to killing Bheeshma herself, why did she need to become a man? After all, Draupadi was the cause of the death of Dushashan & Duryodhan, just like Sita was the cause of the death of Ravan. So Shikandini could have achieved this job just as easily.
On a lighter note, I loved Amba's confrontations w/ Satyavati & Bheeshma, and her putting a damper on Hastinapur celebrations. The only thing I didn't like was the crops burning scene in episode 2, which was needless. If they wanted to show Amba's love for Shalva, they could have shown it in a more innocent way.
Anyway, once again, I salute both Ratan & Sayantani for their portrayal of Amba & Satyavati. I didn't think I could get to dislike Satyavati if Sayantani - one of my favs - was playing the role, but nonetheless, I found myself rooting for Amba against her. Similarly, previously I couldn't see myself liking Amba if Ratan was playing her, but her performance was mind blowing! Well played, Ratan 👏
So we should have seen the entry of Drupada, right, if Shikandini has been born to him? One more guy to celebrate, depending on how he's shown. And he should be there for the long haul, and hope they don't change actors here just b'cos of the long gap b/w appearances for Drupada.
