God must have equipped mothers with the ability to emotionally blackmail their children when they give birth. Nothing else would explain her mother's melodrama from a few hours ago, Madhu thinks glumly. She looks down at her phone, waiting for RK to respond. She sent him a message earlier, essaying the details of her mother's manipulative tactics. He had responded back with a Don't worry. I'll come up with a way to get you out of the mess.' Well that was hours ago! RK has yet to send her another message with ideas on how to disentangle from her mother's cobweb. Madhu thinks angrily, the bloody ass did not even answer her calls.
It has been four, going on five months, since they started dating. Thinking about the way she met and how they had progressed on to being intimate with each other, the night they met, still makes her blush uncontrollably. As embarrassed as she gets about it, after all, she did jump into bed with a man she barely knew, she can't ever regret it. But RK's unresponsiveness is making her livid.
She needs help. Hell! She needs a miracle. In retrospect, Madhu admits to herself reluctantly, that it has taken her mother this long to pitch a fit ever since the night she had stormed out when the last hapless, prospective groom's family paid a visit. That was almost five months ago and till now, she has somehow deftly managed to escape her family's further machinations to get her hitched before she turns another year older.
Perhaps the situation she is currently in, is of her own making. She should have told her family from the beginning that she is dating RK and does not need to be paraded in front of gaggles of prospective grooms. Of course, given their reaction when she announced that she is dating Superstar RK earlier today, Madhu is highly doubtful they would have believed her then as they did not deem to believe her today.
She stares at herself in the mirror in consternation, so here she finds herself dressed in a demure mint green saree to meet a boy and his family. Madhu had tried her utmost best to extricate herself from this awkward situation but then her mother threw down the ultimate card that changed the game. Simmering with rightful ire, Madhu recalls, her mother had declared that she will not take any of her pills unless she agreed to be a good daughter and meet the prospective groom and his family. Since her mother is diabetic and also has high blood pressure, she cannot afford to not take her medicine regularly. So like a good, dutiful daughter, Madhu gave in reluctantly.
Hearing her mother call out her name, to come out and meet the ape and Co, Madhu sighs dejectedly and stands up slowly from her dainty vanity stool. She stares down at her phone, silently praying that RK will find a way to somehow communicate to her his plan. And in the process, she can escape this excruciating torture. She holds on to the small beacon of hope dearly and steeling her heart, Madhu dons her dutiful daughter mantle and walks out of her room to greet the guests.
Mechanically, she serves tea and snacks to everyone, refusing to even look in the direction of the small, wiry, rodent like man her parents for whatever odd reason thinks would make a good partner for her. Madhu sits down daintily next to her mother, her eyes trained on the floor as she fidgets with the folds of her saree. She has been praying silently that her cold, unresponsive behavior would turn off the man and his family. But unfortunately it has had the opposite effect. Her head snaps up in shock as the idiotic man and his family says they like her and want to move forward with the rishta. Like what the f**k? Shouldn't they ask her first?
Having had enough fill of the bullshit, Madhu stands up, ready to give them the set down they so deserve so they can get on their merry way. However, no words escape her mouth as the persistent ring of the doorbell interrupts her thought process. Trying his best to conceal his irritation, her father hurries to the door and opens it. He stands there in shock, his mouth wide open as RK saunters in with his slightly embarrassed mother with a smirk on his handsome visage.
Madhu's face breaks out into a bright, 1000 watt smile as she beams at RK in adoration. He arches one brow questioningly then smiles his devastating smile that always turns her into a puddle. He glances sideways at her sister as she mutters, "OMG. So Madhu was telling us the truth all this time. She is dating Superstar RK."
He smiles widely and affirms, "My dear sister-in-law-to-be, Madhu was absolutely telling you the truth. She and I have been dating for the last few months."
The prospective groom and his family stand up angrily and the mother inquires angrily, "What is this Padminiji? Did you call us to your home to just insult us? Your daughter has a boyfriend on the side and you were trying to get her married off to my son? She is no longer my choice for a bahu but my son really likes her and I am helpless to it. So the choice is yours Padminiji, tell that daughter of yours to end her relationship now and accept the proposal from us or she can remain a spinster all her life." She ends derisively, "No superstar will marry a girl like her because it's obvious she is just a time pass for him."
Padminiji stammers and tries to issue an apology but RK interrupts angrily, turning his ire on the unsuspecting woman, "The decision has already been made. Madhu is NOT marrying your ugly ass, useless son. So see yourself out the door or I will throw you out. OUT!"
They huff and puff out the door, heaping curses at the Maliks and RK. Ignoring the melee, RK and Madhu, hold each other's hands and smile at each other. He tucks her hair back and says the line from her favorite movie, DDLJ, "Koi bhi ullu ka patha sirf ek angoothi pehanakar tumko mujhse nahin cheen sakta...tum meri ho, sirf meri."
Padmini turns her ire on RK as Malik tries to calm her down. Refusing to be quiet, she screams at him, "How dare you interrupt in our family matter? You may be spending time with Madhu as a time pass, fine, even if you are her boyfriend, you have no right to keep her from experiencing the joys of a married life! Who will marry her now? Because that gossiping woman will make sure everyone hears about it that Madhu has a boyfriend. Will you marry her Mr. Superstar RK? Because I don't think you will or else you wouldn't have been dating my daughter behind my back all this time!"
Madhu tries to interfere and lands a soothing hand on Padmini, "Momma please, calm down. We can sit down and discuss this rationally, in a calm manner."
Padmini pushes off Madhu's hands and glares angrily, "You don't say a word Madhubala Malik! I will deal with you later but for now let me deal with this boy who has dared to cause a scene in my house and ruin your future."
RK glances amusingly at Madhu and drawls, "Madhu, now I see where you get your melodramatic tendencies from." Ignoring her murderous glare, he continues, "Sasuma-to-be, look over there please." He points to the left to Radhaji standing quietly in the corner, looking down in embarrassment, "Please meet my mother. I brought her along today so you would take me seriously when I say, I want to marry your daughter. You accused me of ruining your daughter's future well I will rectify it. If you ask me to marry her today, I am ready. I don't need a grand wedding but just the woman I want to marry, by my side as my bride."
Madhu eyes fill with happy tears and she exclaims in surprise, "You want to marry me RK?"
RK gives Madhu a sidelong glance and sighs dramatically, "Tumhari jaisi ladki ke saath mere jaise ladka ka hona bahut zaroori hai."
Madhu laughs and hits his shoulders, "RK, I am serious."
He gives her a long, hard look and asks in a pissed tone, "Woman why are you surprised I want marry you?"
Annoyed, Madhu retorts, "Because we never talked about it. Hell I still don't even know if you love me." She narrows her eyes dangerously and growls, "You've told me that you like me but like is not love now, is it? I want some straightforward answers mister!"
RK closes in on Madhu, cups her face gently and lowers his voice dramatically, "Toh kya hua agar maine jhoot sirf tumhe paane ke liye kaha tha...toh kya hua agar tumhare chehre ke sivah mujhe koi aur chehra dikhai nahi deta...toh kya hua agar tumhare naam ke sivah mujhe koi aur naam yaad nahi rehta...toh kya hua agar yeh awara tumhe deewano ki tarah pyar karta hai...toh kya hua...pyar sab kuch toh nahi hota na."
Madhu stomps her feet in frustration, "RK! If you don't stop with the bloody dialogue from DDLJ, I swear I will strangle you. Can't you be serious and just tell me in plain words what's in your heart?"
He looks around the room, everyone is watching them silently, spellbound by their exchange. RK clears his throat, a bit uncomfortable by his audience. Nonetheless, he has to do what he must, and bends down on one knee. His hands clasps Madhu's in his in a tight, gentle hold and he speaks in a warm, loving tone, "Madhubala Malik, I knew you were the one I was meant to spend the rest of my life with, the night we met. You are crazy but in an extremely adorable way. You are sweet and kind but sassy as hell, just the way I like it. I like, no, I love everything about you, even the traits that drive me batty sometimes. So will you please be my wife and drive me insane for the rest of my life?"
Madhu jumps into RK's arms with a sob and smiles wobbly, "Yes...yes...yes! I will marry you." She hits his shoulders and pouts, "By the way, did you have to wait so long to say you love me? I have been waiting to hear it for months."
RK whispers into her ears, "Isn't my love obvious in the way we always make love?"
Her cheeks flush charmingly as she whispers back, "Hush...I don't need my parents to find out or momma will throw a dramatic fit, worthy of a queen."
RK laughs lightly and nods. He arches a brow and prompts, "Well? Are you going to tell me that you love me as well?"
Madhu smiles mischievously and whispers saucily, "What? You mean it wasn't obvious to you in the way we always make love? Tsk...tsk RK. It seems I am going to have to spell it out for you. I love you too Rishabh Kundra. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and drive each other happily crazy."
As these two lovebirds confessed their love for each other, oblivious to their audience, Radhaji walks up to Padmini and whispers, "Samdhanji. The way these two are going, they will make us grandparents by the end of this year. How about you and I discuss together and set a wedding date for them as soon as possible?"
Hearing the word grandparents, RK grins at his mother as Madhu blushes and pulls out of his arms. He looks at her tenderly and a pleasing image forms in his head, of Madhu's belly swollen with their child. Just the idea of the seed of their love growing in her belly, he is tempted to carry off Madhu as his bride today and start the baby making process as soon as they get some privacy.
P.S. -- This is the last of the series. I am done with these two nutties. lol. By the way, the hindi dialogue are not mine. They are all from DDLJ. Please ignore any grammatical errors because I am too lazy to check. đ Thanks!
