Dinner is just a meal taken for sustenance in the evening, it can be taken alone or together with family and friends. But you take that simple meal, add a few candles; have it with the one whose heart is tied to yours then even a cup of noodles becomes the most delicious meal you have ever eaten. Every few months Madhu would set up the small table in our bedroom's balcony; beautiful flowers, candle lights and some of our favorite dishes. Nothing extravagant. It gave us some time to ourselves to just talk and the side of romance is just an added bonus. The secret to a happy marriage is the little things, like the small candle light dinners every few months, some flowers for the lovely lady as a thanks for all she does. That's the unspoken deal Rishabh Kundra and his wife Madhubala have between them. For the world he may be a Superstar but for her, he is just her Rishabh, her husband. Once every few months she would plan an intimate romantic dinner for them and he would make himself available no excuses. He in return would bring her a little something for her on their dinner date. RK was driving home from a long shoot to one of those said dates. The anticipation from it was reminding him of all their other dates; some were definitely in some unique places under some very unique circumstances.
Their first unofficial date was after he was shot. After he was released from the hospital when she fed him his breakfast because he was being stubborn about needing help. I think that was the beginning of the sparks in our relationship. RK continues to muse as the miles fly by getting him closer to his destination. The first official date would be his makeup karwachauth night at the studio. He still doesn't know what prompted him to make it up to her for almost not showing up. She was beyond shocked, no chance she was expecting him to do anything like this, especially for her. But he did and he would never ever have regrets about it or those melted chocolate bars. Then there was the one during Madhu's revenge game; that date was definitely smoldering. They could have easily set the world on fire. One of their not so hot date was the disaster that was Madhu's birthday lunch, her first birthday after our full 7 pherewali shaadi. Any other woman would have taken her husband to hell and back but not his Biwi; she was hurt and above that disappointed but she doesn't have an ounce of hate in her. Explains why I'm hopelessly in love with her. It seems like I did all the surprising prior to our official remarriage and she does all the surprising after with the exception of one time. I set it all up then proceeded to scare the living life out of her telling her I saw a rat. Of course she melted the moment she saw "I love you Madhu" written in sky with fireworks.
But if I had to choose which candle light dinner date was my personal favorite, it would be one that no one would expect. I know Madhu would wholeheartedly disagree with my choice but I have my reasons for it. It would be our romance in jail dinner date. It was at such a painful part in our lives but she came, put on a brave face to cheer me up in jail. I could see right through to her and the barely contained tears in her eyes so I tried to make her laugh. Of course she could see right through to me too so in the end all we really needed was each other's company. That's really what we always need, the date night, the candles, the flowers and the chocolates is all just an excuse to make sure we can spend time with each other. There was no pretext for that date in jail, nothing to celebrate, nothing to avenge yet my Madhu made it special so I could forget just for a little while.
Dinner is just dinner but it's the company that makes it special and I have the best one in the world, RK mused as he walked towards the balcony.
