A little short...sorry 😛
Chapter 4
(Madhu's POV)
I snuck up to my parents' room. Trishna and her family had left a while ago. Since then, my parents went into their room to discuss something. Was Trishna right about my marriage?
I leaned towards the door. It was slightly opened, so it became more easier to hear.
"Shamsher...is this prince worthy of our daughter?"
"Of course he is! He is the best suitor my princess could get."
"But don't you think we should ask Madhu fir..." Father cut her off.
"No need. She will accept my choice. She hasn't disobeyed me till date."
"But this is a big moment in her life. Shouldn't she get an opinion?" Mother asked.
Father sighed and thought for a minute. He then said.
"Fine. I will arrange a meeting with the prince and Madhu. If she likes him, we can proceed with the alliance."
Tears welled up in my eyes. I didn't want to get married to some random prince. I don't even know his name. I was only Rishabh's, no one else's. I went back into my room, crying into my pillow.
Shortly after, mother came inside. I wiped my tears and put on my happiest face for her. She would get upset if she found out I was eavesdropping.
"Madhu, I have to discuss something important with you."
"What?" I tried to look confused.
"It's about your marriage." My face dropped at the sound of that sentence.
"Why my marriage? I don't want to get married yet!" I blurted out.
"You must Madhu. You are of marriageable age. It is your father's wish." She said, now siting next to me on my bed.
"But...but...I..." I couldn't tell her my feelings. Father would get upset.
"You will go and meet your suitor tomorrow morning. His name is Prince Sultan. Rishabh will accompany you, to protect you." She stroked my hair.
"Alright, mother." I felt defeated.
"That's like my Madhu." She kissed my forehead.
I changed into my nightgown and tried to fall asleep. I couldn't, so I watched the stars from my window, eventually getting lost in them. Hopefully my fate will be with me tomorrow.
(RK's POV)
"Rishabh...come here." His highness came over.
"Yes, your highness?" I bowed in front of him.
"I want you to accompany Madhu to the neighboring kingdom. She has to meet her suitor." He said firmly.
"As you wish, your highness."
"I trust your capabilities, Rishabh. I expect you to bring my daughter back safe and sound."
"Don't worry. I will take good care of her."
"Good. Do get the carriage ready before you go to bed." He dismissed me.
Madhu was getting married. It was a really great news, but deep down, I didn't like it. But I should be happy for Madhu. Then why did I feel upset about the news? I took my mind off of it and went to arrange the carriage.
The carriage was in front of the horse stables, in front of Madhu's window. One of the servants cleaned up the inside.
"I'm finished, Rishabh."
"Ok. You can leave."
I fixed up the interior, making it as comfortable as possible for my princess. I wanted her to always smile.
I turned and looked at her window. She was standing there, upset. I tried to get her attention, but in vain. She was lost in her thoughts. I didn't like to see her upset.
"I should ask her what is bothering her tomorrow." I said to myself.
I finished my work and went to bed.
