couple of months back as he didn't want to play a
father to a 25-year-old, will soon be back in the
show in a new role. He shot a promo for his entry
on Wednesday, and when we spoke to him
afterwards, the actor refuted news about his tiff
with the show's then producer, Saurabh Tewari.
Earlier, when the actor had quit, there was news
about him taking too many leaves, upsetting the
show's schedule. However, Vivian maintains that
he cannot work for 30 days a month. Excerpts:
Madhubala has been my baby
It feels great to be back. No matter what,
Madhubala has been my baby. The makers, as
well as the actors, have put in a lot of hard work
to establish the show. It feels as if I have returned
home, where I used to live practically the whole
day till a few months back.
I went home after leaving the show
I was spending time with my mother. After seven
years, I stayed with her for almost 10-12 days at a
stretch and ate a lot of home-cooked food. Since I
was in Ujjain, my hometown, I gorged on a lot of
namkeens and sweets. I re-lived my childhood,
met all my old friends. It was a great feeling to be
back there. But I ensured that I don't put on
weight. I was a little smarter this time. Instead of
being a foolish foodie, I was smart this time
around and ate what I wanted and played football.
All my clothes have become loose. I have become
thinner that what I was in Madhubala. However, I
did not get the time to follow the show during
this time.
No other project materialised
If it was not for Abhinav Shukla (Abhinav Shukla
and Saurabh Tewari were jointly producing the
show but now they have split and only Abhinav is
handling the show), the decision to return would
have been quite difficult for me. He has been like
a friend, an elder brother to me. Anyway, I was
contemplating lot of subjects, reading a few
scripts and hearing a few writers. I was getting
calls for new TV shows. But none of them
materialized. I got Abhinav's call and he said, 'I
am planning a new character and you will be able
to do justice to that. I don't want anyone else but
you'. I had no valid reason to say 'no'.
My character will be a surprise
My role will be a surprise for everyone. You will
have to wait and watch. I have heard many
assumptions about it. One interviewer asked me
whether I am returning as KRK's (RK's duplicate)
son, and somebody else asked me whether I am
reincarnating on the show. People are coming up
with weird things. We are trying to do something
different. These guys told me, 'This is going to be
challenging for you'. Even I don't know what the
character's going to be like - it's not going to be
the same though. It will be a challenge for me to
get into the skin of the character and make the
viewers accept me.
I didn't quit because of a rift with the
producer
I had quit the show since I didn't want to play a
father onscreen. Saurabh's comments about me
taking leaves were misinterpreted by a reporter.
And it was obviously clarified later on. I am a
human being and not a machine. I do not run on
petrol or diesel. I need four days in a month for
myself and for my family. I cannot work 30 days
a month. Even offices are shut on Sundays, and if
I take leaves, my producers understand that. If
you expect anyone to work 30 days a month for
12 hours, that's against work ethics. In fact,
Saurabh and I were supposed to meet each other
after I left the show. But Saurabh had left for his
hometown and after coming back, he called me
the day I was leaving for Ujjain.
Co-stars are happy
I shot the promo with them. Drashti (Dhami, who
plays Madhubala) was happy about it. I've met
Gunjan (Utreja, the male lead introduced after the
leap) twice. He's a nice, chilled out Punjabi guy
with no malice in his heart, no hidden agendas.
He wasn't competitive or over-cautious. He wasn't
like, 'Vivian has come back and he's my
competitor.' He welcomed me back and spoke to
me nicely.
No confirmation about the show going off air
If something's wrong with your baby, you don't
throw it out. There is no confirmation about this.
People said that Madhubala was going off air
within three months after it started and the next
we heard was that it was the number one show of
the channel. You can't stop people from saying
anything.
