Part 1It was early morning and Madhu was leaning against a pillar in a secluded corner of the mansion. She was continuously wrapping her dupatta on her index finger, lost in her thoughts and looked bitter. She was dressed in a lehenga choli and her long dark hair were neatly tied in a plait that fell to her side. Madhubala was the most beautiful girl in the town she lived in and looked like a princess from every angle. However, destiny had made her the daughter of a maid and like her mother she had to serve the Kundra's until her end. She had no problem with that but what happened last night had challenged her tolerance. She was fuming and did not notice that somebody was approaching her from behind. Next moment someone grasped her arm and pulled her away. She was pinned to a nearby wall and found herself face to face with her tall and strikingly handsome master, Rishabh Kundra.
"Oh wow you didn't get scared," he said with his face an inch away from hers.
"I'm used to the sudden attacks of love you get," she said bitterly.
"Oh come on. Will you not talk to me now?" He asked.
"Has everything changed now?"
"Madhu," Rishabh said. "You knew this would happen one day."
"But why is it happening so soon? Is it your age to get married and have kids?" Madhu snapped at him.
"I know it's too soon but you know mother fears of leaving us before seeing my wedding and that's why everything is happening so fast," he said sadly and Madhu's expression softened.
"Don't worry malkin will be fine," she said trying to console him.
"Please Madhu you can fight with me as much as you like but don't stop talking to me, I cannot bear your ignorance. After my engagement last night when you said you will never talk to me again, I could not sleep all night."
Madhu nodded and he gazed at her face, admiring her beauty. Rishabh and Madhu were childhood friends but when Rishabh was sent to London for higher education, he and Madhu had forgotton each other as they grew older. When he returned after graduating, it was Madhu's beauty that he had fallen for first but slowly when they knew each other they deeply fell in love.
She moved towards him and hugged him tightly. Rishabh hugged her back and digged his face into her neck, kissing it. She closed her eyes as he began to caress her back. They heard some footsteps and Madhu instantly pushed him away.
"Can you push any harder?" Rishabh asked surprised at the force she used.
"I did this to create distance between us!" She hissed. Madhu grabbed a piece of cloth and began dusting a chest of drawers as Radha Kundra appeared from a corner. She was Rishabh's mother and a kind looking lady. She was the most caring person in the Mansion but was unfortunately a heart patient. The doctors had advised the Kundras to keep her away from stress and that was why Rishabh had agreed to get married.
"Rishu what are you doing here?" She asked with surprise. "I have been looking for you since ages."
"Er ... maa I was jogging and er ... ended up here," he stammered. "Why were you looking for me?"
"Come with me and choose a sari," Radha told him.
"Mother I think you have forgotten I'm a boy and I don't wear saris," Rishabh said shaking his head and Madhu surpressed a giggle.
"Oh not for you," Radha laughed. "I want you to choose it for Tamanna."
Madhu's face fell upon hearing Tamanna's name. Rishabh refused making excuses but Radha took him with her forcefully.Over in the hall, Tamanna was checking out the saris and jewellery alone. She was a distant relative of the Kundra's elder daughter in law, Dipali and Rishabh's fiancee. She was from London and had met Rishabh there and fell in love with him. Their parents agreed for their alliance because both families were equal in status and knew each other well. Tamanna's parents were still in the UK and she had no family here so she was living with the Kundras.
"Come on Rishu select a sari of your choice for Tamanna," Radha ordered Rishabh as soon as they entered the hall. Tamanna beamed at Rishabh shyly but he had a bored expression on his face. Radha began putting various saris and jewellery near Tamanna to see what looked best on her while Madhu came over to the hall, dusting furniture. Rishabh noticed a beautiful red sari and picked it up. He imagined Madhu in the sari and smiled.
"Beautiful," he said aloud.
"Yes it's beautiful," Radha agreed and took the sari from him. "It will look really nice on Tamanna."
"No," Rishabh said but nobody listened to him. He turned to look at Madhu, who glared at him for choosing something for his bride. She threw the cloth aside and stomped off.
The following night when everyone had retired to their rooms, Ranveer, the elder son of Mohan Kundra was sitting on his bed, busy working on his laptop. He was a tall, well built man and his younger brother, Rishabh resembled him a lot but Rishabh was handsomer. His wife, Dipali was sitting at the dressing table removing her jewellery. When she finished, she came over and sat next to Ranveer.
"Ranveer I want to tell you something," she said.
"What?" Ranveer asked without looking at her.
"I'm pregnant," Dipali told him with a smile and Ranveer looked at her with surprise.
"Really?" He asked happily.
"Yes."
"That's great news," Ranveer said. Suddenly he got serious, " you know don't you, it has to be a boy this time."
"Yeah I hope so," she said but her smile faltered. "But if it's not then?"
"Dipali you know I love you and my daughter but it's a fact that I want a son as soon as possible. Rishabh is getting married and he will have kids too. Just imagine if he gets a son and I don't then his son will get all this property. Father will give everything to his heir. I want a son and that too before Rishabh so if you fail to give me a son this time then I will have no other option but to marry again." Ranveer explained to her and she stared at him with shock. "I don't want this mansion filled with girls for one boy."
Dipali was hurt. He was talking like it was in her control to give birth to a son.
"OK," she said quietly. "Can I bring Pari to sleep with us now? She always says she wants to sleep here with me."
"Alright bring her," Ranveer said and Dipali smiled a little.
Over at a small dimly lit room, Madhu was awake but lying next to a three year old Pari, who was fast asleep with a teddy bear in her arms. Madhu was thinking about her life when suddenly a noise distracted her and she quickly looked in the direction and found Rishabh entering her room.
