Ok, first I know I'm going to upset many people with my comments but I wanted to think this through for myself.
I used to watch MEIEJ religiously. I started leaving it around the time they brought Pabho in - and though I wanted to watch Madhu's rise to stardom, I couldn't BEAR those idiotic conspiracies.
I came back when I heard buzz that this story was going to end - and was quite heartbroken when RK and Madhu died. But I was willing to give their daughter and the new story a chance. I was willing to see Gunjan Utreja play a new hero. I was willing to see the same story told differently. But sadly the whole thing flops badly.
Why?
The creatives.
Apart from the fact that they laid the ground for the handover - they didn't do it neatly enough. They didn't grieve properly over RK Madhu - they didn't let us say goodbye properly.
The new cast is overweighed with villains and negative characters. There is nothing POSITIVE to look forward to. As for Leelavati's torture of Madhu 🤢 who's going to hang around for THAT?
The plotline doesn't have too much tension between the leads. The dialogues sound boring, the situations are blah, the villains are not amusing or engaging.
Gunjan Utreja/AK
He looks ok
He acts not great but there is room for improvement.
His character has NOT been outlined well.
Apart from grieving over old wounds, there is no spark to AK. He's not heroic, he's not funny, he's not attitude-y... he's boring. Apart from loving his Bebe and falling for every emotional trick known to TV villains, there is NOTHING to the character. He simply doesn't come across as a hero.
Vivian took over the character of RK and made it larger than life. He was nasty, menacing, loving, shrewd, manipulative, emotional - a range of delicious shades.
GU has not managed that with AK. The character is underwritten and the actor doesn't have the confidence to make it his own.
Drashti/Madhu
But the single most important factor for the Second Season not working, IMO, is frankly, Drashti.
Ok, Madhu Jr is not glamorous but must she be quite so foolish?!! The look was ok, but they are overdoing the deglam thing! Drashti is hunched up all the time and it's grating on my nerves.
The character doesn't have the wit or edge of her father, or the spunk and loveliness of her mother.
And although Drashti is a tragedienne par excellence, her skill at comedy is ABYSMAL. No timing, no genuine amusement and those spectacles!!!😡
And Drashti is so bent upon doing this new role well, she forgets to look into the eyes of her hero and has forgotten how to generate chemistry!! I can't believe how THANDA they are together. I had to switch off my TV in embarassment yesterday at the holi 'so called' romance.
So, now added to all this, the production house has split. Whither now, Madhubala?
