Minu, that sort of track has been done many times, but almost always with the real guy turning up alive again in a few weeks.

And MEIEJ is not in a position where it may hope to get leeway of weeks to send audience into depression, resulting in consequently further eroded mass-viewership.
It has already broken the record of every serial when it comes to a depression-phase that has lasted the latter 10+ months of 2013.
No depression-phase is expected to go on for even 4 months, since by the fourth month, majority-audience becomes harder and harder to convince to watch episodes with the expectation of an optimistic culmination suited to their tastes in the coming week or so.

Likewise, if a separation - which can be physical separation or just emotional disunity - of a very popular couple (if that couple is the most viewership-popular factor of the series) goes on beyond three months, the majority-audience stops enduring and expecting reconciliation in the next couple of weeks, and viewership starts to dip, with episodes being skipped for weeks until the couple's actual reunion happens.
After even a month of separation or emotional disunity, the viewership is re-established and stabilized by showing the couple emotionally united, devoted to and understanding of each other, and prioritizing each other and their relationship. This phase of conjugal stability has to be at least as long as the disunity phase, and the longer the estrangement was, the more likely that the couple united phase needs to be even longer.
Separation happening rarely is variety in the couple's life. Frequent estrangements are a disappointment that demotivates majority-audience from bothering to watch the couple's latest estrangement.
The couple coming together through conflict is usually watched avidly. But if that same couple perpetually ends up conflicting, it erodes empathy for the track.
Rather like the doting pride of watching someone you care about achieve something after effort, as opposed to the feelings when watching the same person promptly set aside the achievement and end up at square one repeatedly.
It perhaps does not make for a daily half-hour of anticipatable TV-viewing for the mass-audience that cares about nothing in the series enough to congregate and complain online and are content to simply switch channels and watch something else for bother-free entertainment.
Watching a few serials everyday and not caring much before switching channels from one of those is the audience reaction that is so staggering in massive numbers that tracks change not according to vocal complaints or expectations but according to the fact that enough crores of people are not watching a serial avidly without changing channels to make that series value for the sponsors money.

On the very rare occasions when a serial's track was actually taken forward with the female lead accepting and moving forward in the story with another guy who is a lookalike or even a twin of the husband she loved deeply, either the serial went from high-TRP to mediocre-TRP and then gradually wrapped up after several months of painfully going from popularity success to barely passable popularity, or crashed so badly that the serial had to be wrapped in weeks.

The female lead shown loving another man who looks like her loved first husband raises qualms about lack of depth of her feelings for the first husband with the surface appearance similarity.
If the first pairing (and especially the husband) was extremely popular with the majority-audience, then showing her with anyone else is disastrous for viewership.
But showing her with the same actor as a different character is an equally failed gambit in every attempt it has ever been tried in.

The same actors in a different pairing - with one of them playing a different character - has been a bitter draught of success-termination in every track variation in every series.
To go from being a popular pairing to so passable that the serial needs to focus on supporting character's tracks for the enduring duration of its runtime is a consequence of embarrassing futility.

Those serials were all in the safe or great TRP range, and still went tumbling.
MEIEJ is currently in the comatose 1+ TRP range which is two levels below the 3+ that is the serial's required TRP commensurate with its financial value and budget.
And far more importantly, those track variations were prior to September 2013. So they were in the phase of sponsors not being so stringent about value for money and having weekly viewership excellent or significantly quickly increasing.
That leeway is no longer there for a track to expect a week or two with significantly reduced viewership, and gains starting even a recovery only from third or fourth week.
If a week's episodes are going to end up with less viewership, they now have to be willing to bear the financial brunt for that kind of approach.

As regards nothing being left in the couple's story, that's not a problem.
So long as the couple is extremely popular with the conservative majority-audience, and the couple's characterizations and the track (however little or almost nonexistent it may be) is not contrary to majority-audience's preferences, even minimal tracks can bring superb TRP - and proportionately great budget, with scope for more expense on sets, actors and extras.

The main thing about viewership is not a track being exciting or interesting.
The only thing crucial and necessary is just a guarantee of a half-hour's TV-viewing which won't disinterest or demotivate conservative majority-audience into changing channels for several or most of the scenes.
If tracks and characterizations remain prudently mindful of the fact that the largest segment of majority-audience is conservative, and the lead pairing remains extremely popular with majority-audience, TRP comes in wonderfully at minimum 3+ and rising into the 4+ range, as MEIEJ saw in such revenue-satisfying terms with 3+ TRP week after week and month after month prior to the unwedding.
Online audience complaints about lack of interesting did not translate into even remotely unsatisfactory amount of viewership.

If the CVs take prompt note of viewership-amounts, they won't need to play gymnastics with modification of tracks midway when the intended turns predictably sure to demotivate mass-audience end up having to get scuttled, with the financial budget and screentime not getting enough returns in sufficient crores of people watching to be commensurate with the serial's financial value.

Currently, we don't even see a 'servant' in RK Mansion unless there's something that one of the main or supporting characters already in the scenes can't do, or unless they want to make a scene look more peopled without having to employ more 'guests' in addition to the 'servants'. Whereas earlier, there would be extras in a scene according to needed ambience rather than the bare minimum required in a scene.

I got a weird idea in my mind. Joote chappal nahin marna please.

What if KRK is MK and Pabho's son? And is here to get revenge against RK. (using Bhujang as a stooge since Bhujang has no enemity with RK)

See, the spoiler says MB gets a clue against Pabho's real intentions and Pabho has always poisoned RK against Radha. And she is a grade A cruel sadistic bitch and no sanyasani. On top of it she never thought twice about trying to kill RK's child also - in fact might actually be the reason behind the MC.

Actually that would be a made for each other couple. Both had absolutely no principles and morals.

They can show Radha as Pabho's step sister and the one with the inheritance so MK had to marry her.
