Madhu turned to her side in her sleep when she felt something hard. She woke up with a start and let out a squeak when a hand covered her mouth and whispered in her ears, "It's me, Rishabh. Don't panic." Madhu held his hand and looked at his face in bewilderment. "Aren't you supposed to come tomorrow morning?" asked Madhu. "Yes, but after the exam was over, I could not wait to come to you Madhu. So took the last train and reached at mid night," said Rishabh and pulled her close to him. Madhu felt a surge of relief and hugged him tight, hiding her face in the crook of his neck. "Did you miss me?" asked Rishabh. "Hmm," replied Madhu while nodding her head slightly.
Rishabh placed her on her back on the bed and leaned over her, propping himself on his elbow. "Feeling sleepy?" asked Rishabh with a mischievous smile. "Aren't you?" asked Madhu, giving him a confused look. "Not with my beautiful wife lying under me," smirked Rishabh with a glint in his eyes. It took few moments for Madhu to understand what he meant, and on realization she blushed profusely and hid her face with her palms. She pressed her eyelids shut as Rishabh removed her hands and started planting soft kisses on her face. Suddenly she felt a tug in the part of the sari covering her bust. Her eyes opened wide at the unexpected move and she saw Rishabh trying to pull off her sari's end with an intent expression, as if trying to think of a solution to a grave mathematical question. Seeing Madhu's flabbergasted expression he simply asked, "How complicated is this sari!! How do you open this?" Madhu gulped hard and kept staring at him, unable to think how to react. "Eitto (Voila)!!" said Rishabh with a smile as the sari's end came loose in his hand. Ignoring Madhu's popping eyes completely he slowly lifted the cloth and resumed planting kisses on the bare skin beneath her neck.
Madhu's whole body was revolting against her mind that struggled to keep her sanity. She grasped the bed sheet hard in a fist, and chewed her lower lip, checking herself from letting out the moans that threatened to escape with every intimate touch burning her skin. Rishabh's warm breath mixed with his wet smooches on her bare skin, and his fingers tried to explore the frontiers yet to be found out by his lips. All of a sudden Madhu felt an explosion from the innermost part as his fingers moved inside the lower half of her sari and touched her intimate part. She involuntarily clawed his bare back and let out a soft moan. "You are warm, and wet. Very much ready for me," whispered Rishabh, smiling softly, while remembering the details of the anatomy class lectures, when they were taught about the reproductive system. Although few of his classmates had been married already, still he could not gather much courage to ask them about the nitty-gritty of the "first night". So, he had decided to rely on Professor James' lectures more intently.
"Did it hurt a lot?" asked Rishabh with concern, as he huffed, with beads of sweat glistening all over his face and body. Madhu faintly shook her head, implying no, but a tear escaped from the corner of her eye which caught Rishabh's attention. "Please forgive me Madhu, I should have been more careful," spoke Rishabh as he cupped her face in his palms. "Would it hurt every time like this?" asked Madhu. "I guess not," replied Rishabh and hugged her tight saying, "Please forgive me Madhu. I am sorry..." Madhu covered his mouth with her palm and whispered, "Please don't say like that. Everything will be fine by morning." She spoke as if she had earned many years of wisdom on that very night, when she felt the essence of being a woman first time in her life.
Next morning everything was as usual in the Mukhopadhyay household. But for Madhu it was a new beginning of her life. She had been feeling a bond with this family and the house lately, but last night tied her to the greatest of all bonds, the one with the partner of this life and the ones to follow. She sneaked in the puja room some time during the day and prayed to the god, "God, thank you for giving me such a beautiful life and such a godly man as my husband. Please bless me so that I can keep him happy always and keep him away from every diseases and troubles in life." For the first time in her life she felt the true meaning of the words she had heard Padmini telling about the wife's duty in keeping the well being of her husband. Her beaming face brightened the whole day for the people in the house.
"Madhu, did Bipin babu send some accounts files last week?" asked Rishabh while going through the files in the library. Madhu had come to give him his tea, and on hearing the reference of the accounts files she was reminded of Mukund's repelling behavior. On getting no answer from her, Rishabh looked up from the file pages and saw Madhu's blanched face. "What is it Madhu? Is something wrong?" asked Rishabh, as his brows furrowed deep with concern. Madhu started breathing heavily, and her throat felt parched, unable to utter a word. Rishabh stood up from the chair and came to her side. "What is it Madhu? Tell me!" "Last week a man had come to give that file. Ma was in the puja room, so I went to take it.." spoke Madhu while tears gathered in her eyes. "And?" asked Rishabh, his face already hardened in anticipation. "When I asked for the file, he asked me whether I could recognize him. When I could not, he said he was the man supposed to marry me, but because of you..." paused Madhu, as the feel of Mukund's hand on her made her feel like puking. "That rascal Mukund!! How dare he utter those words in front of you!!" shouted Rishabh. Somehow he knew it was something more than that which had perturbed his Madhu so much. "Did he say something more? Did he do anything to you?" hissed Rishabh in anger. Madhu started sobbing uncontrollably, and spoke, "When I tried to go away, he pulled my hand and.." "Enough!! I don't need to hear anything more!! I'll kill that bas***d today," roared Rishabh, and stomped out of the library.
