Jee Le Zaraa Is Happening
This update is short. I actually just finished finals today and so quickly wrote this up because it's been a while since I last updated. I'll try to have another update up before my surgery on the 17th! I have a lot to do though so I can't promise an update. I'll see! Until then, enjoy this short update!
Chapter Nineteen - The Question
The ringing of his cellphone interrupted my thoughts. We had both been awaiting a call all day. I watched him answer it, an anxious look on his face. He cut the call and turned to stare at me.
"We got them."
A slight moment of relief and joy followed that line. After which I wondered what he truly meant.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean..." he pulled my close by the waist "...that it won't be long before they're rotting behind bars and we're living our life happily together.
I smiled, but pulled free. Every time our skin made contact, something felt off.
"So, what do we do next?"
"Our job is the easiest to be honest. It's not so hard. All we have to do is wait until the man Bittuji hired has the three men watch a scene similar to what they did to our families."
"Wait what? That's too many words."
"Mehra, Malhotra, and Agarwal will get to see their crime reenacted before them. And that's where we come in."
"How..."
"The fire they're going to see isn't only going to spread to the set...but to the studio. Hence, they'll get stuck. The only way out will be through a recorded confession."
"Can't we let them burn to death?"
"As wonderful as that sounds, don't you prefer to watch them rot in jail for the rest of their lives instead of watching them burn and die in a matter of minutes?"
"You have a point..."
"When don't I?"
He smirked.
"So how long do we wait?"
"It'll probably be another month."
"Month?! And what do we do until then?"
"Well, I'm going to continue shooting. You can continue being that nice maid you are and pretend not to be associated with me."
"RK...you know that all the maids in this house already know there's something between us."
"Well then it's your job to change their perceptions."
"But why?!"
"I don't need people to know as of yet that I've fallen for one of my maids."
It irritated me when he called me that, but that was what I was. His maid. Nothing more, nothing less.
That's when a question popped into my mind.
"I have a question."
"When don't you? I should just name you the Question Queen."
"Very funny."
I gently hit his arm as he laughed in response.
"How'd you know where to find me?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, from the orphanage. How'd you find me?"
"Ah, I didn't. Bittuji did."
"But I mean..."
"Listen, I'm busy right now. I need to read over my lines for tomorrow, so..."
"I'm not leaving without an answer."
"Honestly, it's nothing really."
"What do you mean RK?"
"There's a reason you're maid number nine."
"There is?"
"Yeah, eight other girls stood in the same position you're in now."
I wondered if he meant that he also had an affair with the eight other girls or if meant something else. I kept silent to let him continue.
"What I mean is that Bittuji made nine guesses and it was his ninth guess that was correct. The past eight maids also lost their families to fires, but it was your family that had an unexplained fire death."
"So you just...fired the other eight...?"
"Yes."
He seemed so nonchalant about it that I wondered if he had even changed from the first time I met him.
"Now if you'll excuse me..."
