MADHUBALA - REMEMBER ME


Part 9

Madhu and RK turned around to find Deepali standing with her manager just behind her. Madhu opened her mouth to say something but Deepali showed her palms to stop.

"What did you just say to RK? What do you think of yourself huh?" She shouted with a disgusting look on her face.

"What did I say?" Madhu asked baffled with her questions.

"I heard what you said something about not being a good friend." Deepali told.

"I don't understand." She asked again while RK stared at the two women trying to understand what Deepali wanted to say.

"Never mind just stay away from my boyfriend." Deepali warned raising her finger.

"He is not the only man in the world to be loved." said Madhu and RK tilted his head towards her. She knew he was the most loveable man in her world and mentally laughed on the irony of her words while RK didn't like her words.

"How dare you? You think you can steal my boyfriend from me." Deepali narrowed her eyes when Madhu raised her finger too and said. "For your information I am not interested in your boyfriend. And he was the one who offered his friendship not me and I said yes because this wasn't good for shooting. He is just a co-actor and nothing else and if I ever found you pointing finger at me.." She trailed off as she noticed all the units and people were staring at them but this girl had the audacity to accuse her of something she hadn't done so she had done what was necessary. She took a deep breath while RK stood rooted to his place. Her eyes widened even more in anger, he thought. He knew Deepali was possessive about him but today she had crossed all the limits and needed a peace of mind today.

"Okay time out. Deepali you are overreacting. I offered my friendship because we needed it for scenes between us in the film and without it we won't be comfortable with each other. And she just said she wasn't a good friend to people. That's it." RK clarified and when Deepali tried to say something he wrapped his arm around her to soothe her. "It's okay babe. She is just straight forward."

Madhu narrowed her eyes at his last words. She wasn't straight forward but her so called girlfriend had made her angry. She shook her head at the tantrums of Deepali and walked away.

"How dared you to talk to my boyfriend? And you tricked him and fell into his arms? What do you think of yourself?" said Deepali.

"Listen whoever are you I didn't do anything." said Madhu as Priya.

"It's Tina Ma'am for you and behave I am your senior." Deepali lifted her chin in arrogance while her sidekicks glared at Madhu.

"It was just an accident." reasoned Madhu.

"Whatever it is. Just stay away from him." She turned her head dramatically and walked away leaving an open mouthed Madhu behind.

"And Cut." The director shouted and Deepali turned back to whisper in Madhu's ears taking her name as it was something to be loathed of. "And it was for you too Madhubala."

For the next two months Madhu was too busy to notice anything except the man who seemed busy with his girlfriend in oblivion that the man was in no better condition than her. Deepali and RK had started shouting at each other for matters as small as corn. The matter was not the growing friendship between RK and Madhu but it was entirely a different thing. RK wanted her to accompany him to his home to meet his mother but she denied every single time. She didn't want to get married now when she was climbing the stairs of her carrier graph and RK's mother was forcing him to at least get engaged but Deepali wasn't ready for that either. It would have tarnished her image as a seductive and single woman though everyone knew about their relationship but getting engaged and then married was a big deal in film industry. Madhu and Trishna along with others had heard them arguing on the sets many times. RK was trying hard to avoid the pressures from his mother and Deepali and his growing attraction towards the brown eyed woman was piling up his problems more. He and Madhu started talking to each other and grew a friendship people wished normally for. Madhu and Trishna brought food for RK and the whole unit including Deepali sometimes and they had their lunches together. Roma's health was stabilizing and Madhu and Trishna were happy with this news.

Two weeks ago before the final day of the shooting Deepali returned to Australia for her next movie and that provided some relief to RK. In those two weeks their friendship grew more and more and strengthened that if Trishna wanted to find Madhu she asked for RK instead. They were inseparable for the matter and these two weeks without Deepali on the sets were felt happy and fun. Shooting ended on a good note and post productions programs started. Some dance sequences were also shot in those two weeks and Madhu was finally happy as well as sad that she was free to do anything now not knowing it was just the beginning. Her happy days were to be interrupted as well as her journey for finding her life and identity was going to start soon and that would not be easy for her.

PRESENT TIME

"But I don't understand. How can a person who hated a man be best friends with him later? I don't understand your Madhu." RK asked.

"I was thinking maybe you won't ask that question but it seems you are smarter than other actors." Madhu said and teased adding "sometimes."

"I am smart all the time." He narrowed his eyes and Madhu smile at his reaction. This was the thing that had made her fall in love with this man. It was true he was smart but teasing him was a feeling she never wanted to forget and being here with him made her drop her wall for a minute. Not getting any more reaction from him she started not caring for or acknowledging the presence of the other man sitting on the table with them who was keenly watching the interaction between them.
