When the Delhi gang-rape case was trending, Madhu spoke out loud and clear against abusing women, RK was so moved and touched he apologized for behaving like an animal, and getting the TRPs and having done lip-service to women-power and gender-equality, everybody was happy.
A few episodes later RK revealed his grand revenge plan. And I thought- how can this guy who earlier said he knew what dhoka meant having been cheated in three of his rishtas do this himself. And what about what he told Madhu after she defended Padmini in court? Did the character never mean it then? Was it just one episode's show of solidarity and that too fake? How can CVs insult Amanat's memory so? (And remember, Madhu talked about Amanat, may be not by name, but she mentioned rape inside a moving bus).
Anyway, I couldn't believe it, so I convinced myself RK was faking it and some plausible (as plausible as you can get in Indian serials, at any rate) explanation would soon be revealed. Days passed, RK started proving himself more and more a royal jerk, and as my hope for an explanation started fading I hoped for him to realize his mistakes and make amends.
When he saved Madhu from that creep on set (a day after insulting her in front of the unit) my mind screamed at me: what is the bloody message? The man insults, the man mistreats, but see- he loves her, he also saves her damsel-self in distress... But I told myself, this is fiction, there will be stereotyping, ignoring it. I kept hoping for his redemption.
Then Sultan entered. I thought- this girl can't get a break? It's either a jerk or a gangster? But alright, this is all for a filmy flavour, let RK feel jealous now and try and rectify his mistake.

I was hopeful when he gave that "lat lag gaye" line.
I was hopeful when I saw the Holi promo where he said he was coming to colour Madhu. I expected apologies. I expected tenderness. I thought may be he would see Aryan and realize who he had spoken to and what he had said. What I got was one man full-of-himself pulling off one cheap stunt after another (that forceful twirling dance, that picking up, that self-assured "iss tarah kanpne ka haq sirf tumhara" line) who had the audacity to feel ill-treated after his wife whom he had mistreated in all possible ways ran away to colour someone else. And I saw the girl whose courage & self-dignity I had admired so far melting and weeping because she couldn't colour her jerk of a husband.
And people were going gaga over that scene. I felt uneasy, but I kept quiet, knowing that if I opened my mouth I would be bashed to smithereens.
But now he gets to tell people not to talk to his wife (& people justify this by comparing with Madhu telling Deepali that RK was only her husband), he gets to kidnap her, kiss her against her will (& when I point out that any sexual advancement against the will constitutes harassment I'm told RK is her husband & Madhu may be angry but she too loves him, so this is not against her will), lock her inside the house AND...have you seen the latest promo where he CHAINS HER UP? Seriously, I know all is fair in love and war, but even war has some code of conduct!!!
According to RK fans who can see him do no wrong, we are delusional, we live in an imaginary world & we can't differentiate between fact and fiction. I want to ask them, do you know husbands forcing wives, locking them up happen to real world women and they are traumatized by the experience? Do you know they showed an actual episode on Sabdhan India where the man chained up his wife and daughters because he saw his wife exchanging pleasantries with a neighbour & one girl finally ran away and had to undergo prolonged treatment in the hospital? Do you know young boys think it's cool to tease and harass girls because movies like Rowdy Rathore teach them so? I mean, didn't all our school essay books have some variation of the topic "Mass Media & its Effect on Society". A man, supposedly a 'hero' drags a woman to his house against her will, touches her against her will, kisses her against her will, chains her up to prevent her escape and you need us to spell out for you what is wrong in this? We spell it out for you and then you call us delusional?
Worse, you celebrate these acts as the height of romantic passion?
I'm actually afraid to visit the forum now because I might come across a thread about how RK chaining up Madhu is so romantic and then i'll vomit over my keyboard and have to clean it myself.🤢
I have loved Dsena since his Kasamh Se days where his role was minor, I loved him as Abhay even though I hate Twilight & its derivatives, but does liking an actor and appreciating his acting means having to support such a heinous character?

I have no words left to describe this RK!! And I don't see any chance of redemption. He is a lost case. He has gone beyond the point of redemption.

Only, point left is to send him off for treatment and for Madhu to walk off into the sun set alone.

True. I don't see why Madhu can't have a normal life without a jerk of a filmstar or a gangster.
Anyway, since those who can see their hero do no wrong know such a lot about dark heroes, they should also know that dark heroes always have tragic endings.

He needed to apologize, not drag her against her will. Madhu has every right to not give in to his advances after what he has done. And what love? He hasn't said (unless you count the fake confession before the revenge drama) he loves her, he only said he needs his property back.
Madhu is a piece of inanimate object for him to throw out and drag back in as he wishes. And he also gets to decide when she speaks, where she goes...why doesn't he get a battery-run doll to fulfill his demands?

Is this a joke?😆 Did you watch the episode? According to him, the pain he caused her was a simply nok jhok from his end, and hence he feels no need to apologise!😆😆 And still lets blame the girl, and worship the guy! Wah! 11th century has spoken! *Bows down to the genius*

Are these people from this century? Are they real? No Simple nok-jhok? Seen that Idea ad where the son exchanges his parents' phone to make them understand each other? Now that fight is a simple nok-jhok between spouses. It happens between people living together, getting tired, workplace troubles creeping into home-life, misunderstandings, a variety of other reasons. What RK did was cold-blooded betrayal, and even after that he won't leave her alone but keep humiliating her.
Such is his love that he only feels it when he sees her ignoring him and moving on with her life. Wow!
And apparently, no matter what RK does, we can't call him psycho or we can't criticize him.
Well, you know what? I don't watch Sanskar, but the promos bother me so I went to their forum to say that no one has the right to make a person change herself and give tests to prove herself just because she is married into that family. Sameway, I have stopped watching this show but I still say that no husband has the right to do what RK is doing to Madhu. Because as a girl, I am bothered by these depictions.

No difference other than he aint physically beating her up yet!

I just wish the ratings were not cut off for 3 months, then when trps would have touched 0.9, I would have enjoyed😃😭😆

That was indeed like the last straw..."Nokh-Jhok" proves how he has LOST IT!!!!

@nobodyatnotime:

Here's a standing ovation to you! 👏

A very thought-provoking post. I completely agree with your views and understand your distress from the bottom of my heart. People who have turned 'blind' towards the character RK do not understand the extent of his mis-treatment and the impact or the aftermath. I had seen such violence from up-close happening to my very close and dear friends. A bench-mate of mine in the second year of college was married off by her parents (in the same year before she could even complete her graduation) to her husband who was chosen by the parents in the children's childhood. My friend went with her husband to UK after marriage only to be treated horribly - beaten blue and black, suspicious of her behavior all the time, abused exactly like RK is doing to Madhu. With no emotional support, no financial independence, in a different country with her passport in her husband's possession, it was a sheer miracle that she could escape with her neighbor's help and contacted her father in India who flew to UK right away to bring her back to India. Another friend of mine in the USA was abused by her boyfriend exactly like RK (manhandling and forcing her) and she took ages before she could come out of the trauma. She got nightmares for a very long time. It left her scarred and scared for life. Another case happened in exactly the similar manner to my mom's distant cousin. Because mom's brother, my Maama, was in Police, as soon as they got to know about the abuse (she was locked up in the bathroom without food and was told to drink water supplied from the tap in the bathroom. She cleverly dropped a chit writing about this incident from the bathroom window which her neighbor luckily saw and read and contacted her family), they freed her from her husband, got her divorced but she was so scared that at the young age of 23 she refused to re-marry and settle in life. She till today has not re-married. She hates men.

The bottom line is that you, me and many like us in this forum, however much we scream and tell people that what is being shown is wrong and can impress the minds of young generation, our voice of reason will be lost in the so-called passion and glorification of the character RK. So I have learnt my lesson - come to the forum to read only the posts that still make sense and do voice my concern whether people like it or not.. Just as these people have a right to watch TV and express their opinions, however wrong they may be in our eyes, we too should continue to express our views whether they like it or not. Unless one of them actually sees or experiences the pain Madhu is going through, they will never realize. If they want to learn the hard way, be it. I just wish even though we feel distressed over the state of the forum, we should continue voicing the reasons too.

@nobodyatnotime:

I take my hat off to you and salute you.

That was a beautiful and very effective piece of writing. You put down everything most of us here felt, hoped and prayed for and didn't happen. You clearly described our utter disappointment, outrage and dismay at what actually transpired. You reminded us of how the cvs mercilessly and cheaply used poor Amanat/Nirbhaya as a mere and convenient tool to get their spurious message across.

Basically, you highlighted what is wrong with this show, the mindset of some of the people watching the it and the tasteless and horrifying intentions of the cvs and PH and the channel.

👏

PS: I'm still in shock about the new promo. I haven't seen it yet. Thanks for telling me.

And now they will say, see RK is not starving her or beating her, so it's not really abuse. Someone made a gif of the scene where he kisses her hand, and they say- there is no disgust in her eyes. She says no, she doesn't want to enter, she asks him to let her go, and all they can see is this is his love.
I'm reminded of Mr.Collins from Pride and Prejudice who couldn't accept Elizabeth was rejecting his proposal so he kept saying a girl's no really means yes. Same here- no matter how many times Madhu says no, RK and his bhakts don't understand.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. We spend time and energy articulating reasons for not liking current track, and then we get- stop being/negative/delusional and this is fiction anyway, and I want to go and bang my head against the wall.
