She loves him *and* she is fiercely proud. If it was just one or the other, she could go back and either fight with him or refuse to leave. But she *does* love him. To insist on sticking around in his home and life when he says he doesn't want her would hurt her love and her pride.
And she was shaken completely. Everything she saw and felt in his feelings was true, but she couldn't bring herself to fight and insist that she hadn't been mistaken. She allowed herself to be numbed and convinced that he was actually that good an actor that he could act 24/7 for months.
And the confrontation that would have never let things fester would also have prevented this estrangement track from going on for so long.
