Chapter 4

Madhu tentatively reached out for the cell phone with quivering hands and glanced at the caller information. Her eyes widened as she saw her own name flashing on the screen. With trembling fingers and a loudly beating heart, she answered the call. "Hhhello.." The silence that followed only doubled her anxiety and her heartbeat quickened. Why didn't he say anything? Was he okay? She clutched onto the cell phone as if holding on for dear life. She needed him to speak to her. She wanted to hear him, even if the voice that followed was her own. It maybe her voice but it would be his words.

It was weird for him to actually hear his own voice on the other end of a call. But he knew at once that the person on the other end was not him, though the voice might sound like him but it was not him, it was Madhu, for he never in his life attached a tremble to his voice. He wanted to say something, but was at a loss for words. Where to begin? What should he say? Though it was months since he last spoke to her, it felt more like years, even decades maybe.

Even though it wasn't Madhu's voice, just the knowledge that it was her on the other end of the line was enough to have his heart skip a beat. Silent tears flowed from his eyes down his cheeks. And before he could stop it a small sniffle escaped. Wait a minute! I am crying!! I am actually crying. What the hell is wrong with me?

She heard a small sob and frowned. She looked at the caller information again in confusion to see if what she had read earlier was actually true or was her eyes playing tricks on her. Is Rishab crying? Oh My God!! He is!! He is crying. But why? A small smile graced her face as she put two and two together. Hormones!! That is what it is. Hormones!!

She wondered if he knew of her situation, the baby situation. Maybe that is why he was crying. "Rishab.." Madhu called out slowly, "Are you okay? Are you crying?... Don't cry. We will figure this out."

"I am NOT crying. Some dirt fell into my eyes. I don't know how you live in such a dirty place. Dust keeps falling. I will tell Patil and he will come clean this place up. Make it liveable." Rishab said in a choked voice, wiping away the tears on the sleeve of his kurta.

A giggle escaped before she could stifle it. She knew he was just saying that to hide away the fact that he was actually crying. "Sure do that. It will be a big help and I will be eternally grateful. But before you do that could you make sure you feed my pet. Raja, my pet... 'lizard'... must be hungry by now."

"Ahhh!!" Rishab screamed and jumped to the center of the wash-room and looked all around for this lizard Madhu was talking about. "Lizard? Where?"

Madhu couldn't control herself anymore and burst out laughing. When Madhu started laughing uncontrollably, he realised that he was just played. And Rishab being Rishab had to retaliate somehow. "I didn't know you had a pet lizard. Don't worry he must have already dined on the countless number of flies and mosquitoes that you have amassed in your home. They say that pets look like their master. If he is anything like you, by now he would have become fat. How much weight have you put on Madhu? You are beginning to resemble a balloon. You should be careful now or else it won't be long when people will start using you as a means of travel. You know 'Hot Air Balloon'."

Did he just call her fat? Madhu's face turned crimson red in anger. "Did you just call me fat? I am not fat. I am PREGNANT you pompous ass!!" Madhu shouted into the cell phone.

Luvera...lovely update ...but a very short one...can I hope to get a longer one the next time😉

Yes bomb explodes... Waiting for the dust to settle to check on the damage... 😉

They have just switched bodies.. Rishab still considers himself a male and Madhu a female... They are just trying to find a way back to their original bodies... But if this endures and they give up hope of ever returning to their original bodies then maybe they will accept the fact that they are in those bodies to stay and will accept their new genders...

Just a thought... Maybe this way Madhu will become a heroine... What do you say??
