His ego is his biggest enemy and his best defense mechanism. Plus, he's worried, angry at being ignored, perhaps, even a wee bit jealous of the unknown humsafar. A lethal mixture for a guy who's basically still a child emotionally. So, he knows only to hit out when hurt.
