if it is not revenge (i think it is at this point) but if it wasnt he could have felt she was in danger because of him. he was always in fear of losing her and especially after the balraj track he looked uncomfortable around her because he had almost lost her. So maybe he thought if I let her go before I lose her I can be happy and have some peace of mind.
