A real revenge is when you can get the other person to trust you fully and then you strike at the right time. He is no doubt very sane and intellectual, but at the same time he has faked his love for her (or does he really love her and he doesn't even know it?) which makes him a coward. He has never physically approached her even when they slept on the same bed in the mansion or anywhere else. This proves that he is not out to get revenge using physical means but rather mental.

He wanted her to fall for him and then leave her deserted, which in it self is a coward way out. A person who lacks the courage to face realty is a coward to me. Imagine after all said and done he does fall in love with her (which I am sure he will) would she ever trust him again. It's really a no win situation.
