From Kapur to Khattar to Kapur: The Names

Nowadays Shahid is seen being more affectionate towards his once estranged dad and his family. He is also going to start working on a film starring him and his dad for the first time together to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.



One of Shahid's friends tells us, "Shahid's parents divorced when he was still a kid. His mother then married television actor Rajesh Khattar, who was last seen as SRK's boss in Don. During his school days Shahid started using Khattar as his second name then. As an Arts student of Mithibai College, Mumbai too he was having the same surname. Even when he did his first major ad for Pepsi with Shah Rukh, Khan, Kajol and Rani, he was Shahid Khattar. But just when he was thinking of making a career in Bollywood, Neelima and Rajesh divorced. What left Shahid miffed later was that her mother got married once again – this third time to singer Raza Ali Khan."

"This marriage had drawn unwanted media attention because of Raza's first wife taking him to court for bigamy. Neelima then had to give a statement in court that she was not actually married to the singer. All this had annoyed Shahid very much and his drifting away from her started that time. He then changed his second name back to his biological father's surname. But he never took advantage of his father's seniority in the industry. He got all his projects on his own. Shahid was staying with his mother and her son from her second marriage, Ishaan (who also starred along with Shahid in his film, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi) but after a showdown between his girlfriend Kareena and his mother, he moved out of his house and started staying alone in an apartment at Yari Road in Versova, Mumbai. This was the very same building where Pankaj Kapur resides with his second wife, actress Supriya Pathak and two sons. This act many said was purposely done to annoy his mother."
