Two episodes with a lot of Gaurav scenes and still i didnt write anything... well Depp, my one true love đ, was calling... So today i can return to Gaurav, my second true love... third actually.... since Pacino is always around and i'm sure is going to steal the show in ocean's 13!!
Chalo i'll stop being e news and get down to the topic in hand...
First, some general elitist ranting ... why does everyone on this show use the word 'anyways'... no such word in the english language people... please stick to 'anyway'.... it jars less on the ears.
Also, for someone who goes biking and all, Kunal Kapoor does a good enough job of playing the fool... in fact, i would have liked him yesterday but he killed it... by making a complete 'falooda' of things.... its Feluda, felu, not falooda... nahi pata toh mat bolo.... par aise Satyajit Ray ka kachra toh mat karo... Gaurav also grandly declared 'elementary Watson'.... what happened to the 'elementary my dear watson'?....
I know, i know.... i sound so school marmish and prim and proper... but i love the detective genre.... whether in books, films or tv... whether holmes, poirot, miss marple, bond, byomkesh bakshi, feluda, karamchand, the 3 investigators, isabel dalhousie, bond, inspector frost etc etc (can go on and on but will have mercy on people)... and i hate it when people get it wrong... falooda bana diya mere Feluda ko... incidentally, for those who have seen Parineeta, the guy who played Saif's father, is the guy who plays Feluda in the Bengali tv series... i havent seen it but i've heard he's done a brilliant job there...
Waise to give Kunal his due, i liked the way he did that 'it went from here... i felt it' in a fumbling way... i think the entire scene where he realises that there are traps was well done.... waise why do they show the cadets as this dumb?... why cant they realise that there is a trap, that something is wrong? Also mr dialogue writer, i have learnt for all eternity that a hawk is a baaz and a dove is a kabootar... ufffff.
But my wannabe detective soul feels that all such chase scenes must be fun... it must be fun to do them, its fun to watch them... and thats why i dont really care about the glitches... i still enjoy all such sequences..
the scene where Gaurav asks Huda to go with Yudi was an interesting one... the way i see it, it was not about who goes with Naina... it was about establishing command, about not letting Huda decide what will happen... it was just a reversal of his decision... its a power play between two men... Abhimanyu can claim the status of a teacher and thus impose his authority... but he doesnt do that... instead he reminds Huda that the final decision rests with him and very politely puts him in his place... firmly but pleasantly... while huda is petulant, which is what i expected him to be.... i like the interaction between these two men, i want to see where it is going.
Incidentally, the 'mere pair jawab de gaye hai'... 'toh aur sawaal puchiye unse' was really a bad joke... but bilkul mere type ka joke tha... i love such stupid jokes and i know you do too Teena so admit it đ đ
When Abhimanyu said 'shayad isiliye', i thought he would say then 'shaayad isiliye naveen asked rajeev to kill him'... i cannot figure out what the guy's attitude to his best friend's death is... is he ok with Rajeev being the killer? is he not? this is the part that i'm most interested in watching over the coming few weeks... if they do this badly, i'll disown the show completely.
Another aside: i think that 'geet gaata chal banjaara' is a nice name for Abhimanyu đ... ironic really considering that he is a prince but somehow suits him...
And now the much maligned last scene 'meri aankhon mein dekhiye' scene... I've heard people berate it for being too romantic and on the other side of the fence, for not being romantic enough or intense enough... well i do not think it was a romantic moment... there is so much more to human relationships than just friendship or romance and this scene was one such tender moment... it was a moment when Abhimanyu opened his heart to Naina... tried to make her see the world the way he sees it.... she was upset and also slightly hysterical... but it wasnt simply calming her down... it was that and at the same time letting her inside his world... a bridge has definitely been crossed, she has moved beyond being only Naveen's sister... she's definitely got more insight into Abhimanyu, as have we, the audience.
As for it not being very romantic or intense, (and Teena i know you feel that way), i dont think it was meant to be very intense... as i wrote yesterday in a different post, we all (including Abhimanyu) can have Samay like, larger than life moments... but we cannot live at that pitch of intensity forever... Abhimanyu is less intense, though no less ernest... and this was not even a larger than life moment in his life... but you know i feel that it is moments like these when we truly reach out to one another, when we let other people come closer to us... it is as much in such small moments that life long relationships, and not necessarily only romantic ones, are built as in the big, declaratory moments.
Chalo will give this thesis a rest here now. Ya have one more episode to go but will try and add a shorter post to this same topic.
