Episode ~285

The attic

Kala tells the besieged family, come on now! eat you must be hungry, besides you need it to be alive to carry out Dutta's last rights. They all especially Baji glare at her sick talk. She claps her hands and the BG brings in a thali with items signifying final rites of the dead.. she holds it before her mother, I am not all that bad as you think, I have made full arrangements for Dutta Bhau's pyre and remains..her mother, rebukes her, even the ten headed demon ravan didn't have so much arrogance as you have Kala.. Baji tells Kala, this pyre that you have arranged for will be used for you! and Kala mocks, too bad your Dutta didn't come to save you Baji? such a coward he is! your Bhau! Aye Sahib, lashes out , my son is not a coward! he will come! Kala replies, when? when will he come! you mean to say you don't know why your Dutta's not turning up? I'll tell you why? the truth is he's forgotten you lot! and has set up his home with a dancing girl ! so you don't believe me? Now all of you are aware that Dutta is alive.. if he is, then why hasn't he come home yet?.. your beloved son is blind! all are in shock and Baji, retorts, Kala your evil words will never come true!.. Kala scoffs at Baji, oh don't you worry, for your sake I will bring him home so you can light his pyre! Then she turns and sneers at her mother, don't worry Aye Sahib I'll give him an easy death.. Aye Sahib cries, you'll rot in hell!and Kala retorts, it won't be me rotting in hell but it'll be Dutta with his father Damoder! don't know why my ears yearn to hear your screams! nooo! my Dutta don't leave me! when are you going to scream all this? because Aye Sahib, he will leave you! tomorrow be ready to receive the bones and remains of your son Aye sahib! and Kala leaves the thali on her mother's lap...and then leaves. Aye Sahib pushes the thali off her lap and the earthen pot for the remains crashes to the floor and breaks!

Baji runs to her , kneels before and grabs her hands.. Aye Sahib! she bursts into tears, for which sin of mine is my son being punished Baji? Baji comforts her, Aye Sahib you don't stress, Bhau may have lost the vision of his eyes, but I have full faith in Naku! as soon as she will get to Bhau, and they are united! then we will see who goes to the top and who sinks.. we'll see whose burnt at the pyre!

Naku's wait..

Naku sits alone at the steps of the temple at the edge of the water front. It's night time.. the lights of the temple shimmer in the waters. Morose and silent she sits. Two women look upon her ,from a height and then come down the steps to her, and sit beside her on the steps.. look child, it's late at night!how long are you going to sit like this? come with us and have a bit of rest, besides tomorrow you have to head for shriramnagar . But Naku refuses.. no thanks Tai.. I saw my Saab right here... he can come here at any time.. so I am not moving from here, you go.. the stubborn unyielding hunch of a wife in her husband. The two women leave her to it.

Dutta

Dutta sits on the edge of the bed in the rest room hired by Seema for one night. considering Seema's vocation.. is there more to spending this one night with Dutta in the rest house?

Naku's song..

By the edge of the water , Naku muses.. close by, yet so far are we.. which turn of life's cross road are we at? when will our ways converge?.. at every passing moment my light of hope burns.. my eyes look out for your arrival beloved!.. when will we meet? dutta sits equally morose in the rest house.. every part of my heart is lit above by your love!.. I am your light , but where are you?.. close by, yet so far are we.. which turn of life's cross road are we at? when will are ways converge?.. soul ful musings by Naku.. with references, to eyes, light.. seeing her beloved.. and in between the camera pans in on the visually impaired Dutta.

Dutta's clarification.

While Dutta sits deep in thought.. the door behind him opens and Seema enters carrying a tiffin for Dutta to eat... he turns his head and asks, who is it? Seema replies it's her. She walks up to him and tells him, I've brought some food for you.. shall I dish it out for you?.. Dutta feels uncomfortable.. and replies, I am not hungry , you go ahead and eat..Seema stares down at him and recalls the romantic lunches she used to feed Dutta in the garage years ago.. but now.. she feels rejected and thus puts the tiffin behind him, on the bed... but doesn't give up on him entirely.. and asks him, shall I put in your eye-drops? after some thought he says, yes.. she smiles.. close contact.. touchy feely..she turns to get the drops and Dutta starts getting edgy.

have to say as a man, Dutta feels awkward at having close contact with a woman ..other than his wife.. Seema's every move is about hopes for revival of her lost love..

Seema rests her palm on Dutta's forehead.. and it slides up affectionately to his hairline ..and then stops and looks down at his waiting face.. he wonders why she is not putting in the drops..why have you stopped? and she gets on with it and puts eye drops in each eye..then covers his eyes with her palm.. close your eyes.. and she keeps her hand on his forehead and then slowly caresses his forehead..and Dutta furrows his eyebrows.. and says.. seema!what are you doing? she stops, pulls her hand away and says, why not?.. and Dutta replies, because what you are thinking..it's not possible now.. disappointed she questions, why is not possible, haven't you forgiven me? Dutta is at a loss of words doesn't want to seem ungrateful for her services ..seema sinks down on the bed and sits by him on the edge of the bed. and pleads.. look I was nave then..rejected your true love and went after money! Dutta clinches his jaw and lowers his eyes.. Seema carries on, and before I could realize my folly, life took me too far.. money that I left you for ,was showered upon me as a dancer! that money seemed more like abuses hurdled at me.. Dutta I have realized my mistake! I have changed now! now I just want to repent! Seema attempts to tap Dutta's sympathies to gain his attention.. but Dutta replies firmly, what kind of repentance?.. just for a moment consider that I have forgiven you.. but can your repentance bring back my past years? wash away the blood off my hands? can you return the old innocent Dutta that I buried years ago, back to me??.. Seema in life there's one thing that never returns.. it's the past! and who knows better than me? FB's of Dutta doing contract killings, on route to becoming Dutta Bhau! Seema listens to Dutta, and pleads,I know I have hurt you a lot in the past! whatever I did to you was unacceptable ! and may be today I am being punished! just this once think of me how miserable I feel! Dutta I have really changed!...and I love you a lot! I cannot love anyone other than you! can I not have a small place in your life? Dutta frowns angrily.. NO! trust, forgiveness, belief.. are all possible.. but you being part of my life is impossible! You can't even imagine what I became? I turned into an animal! but one person changed me back into human from a beast!.. FB..dusky Naku stopping him from drinking.. helping him to his bed after face revelation ..dutta plastering vermillion in her parting during the first marriage..post Supriya..then second marriage, Dutta pushing her across his desk.. there is obvious regret and remorse on Dutta's face when he recalls his atrocities.. manhandling and physical torture! on Naku the woman who loves him unconditionally.. Dutta continues with a smile..and now only that person has the rightful place in my life! that person washed away my blood stained hands with her tears.. understood me; reformed me; accepted a person like me; if I am able to forgive you today, it's because of that person! ..yes you have changed ,I have seen it... but I can only be grateful to you for that! you saved my life..and I pray that you meet someone in your life too whom you can love, and he loves you in return !.. but more than this... says Dutta and Seema listens to Dutta.. weeping.. at the implication of his words.

Naku still sits on the step ,waiting for her husband.

Seema seeks further clarification from Dutta.. there is someone in your life? Dutta stands away from her at the window and replies, hummm..she asks, is that who you phoned ? Dutta nods, hummm..she asks, you love her a lot? and Dutta nods, hummm.. Seema is devastated..why didn't you tell me all this before? and Dutta replies, it takes time for me to trust people.. but today I had to tell you , so that you are not under misconceptions ..seema sniffs back her tears and gets up from his bed! and moves toward's Dutta who stands near the door and walks past him saying.. you rest now.. tomorrow we leave for jhoka, than shiroli..which is in the middle of the forest.. there no one can find us easily.. suppressing her tears she walks past him and leaves the room. Dutta watches her hazy figure moving away..

Naku wakes up with a startle..saab!..looks over head and muses, at every breath of mine, there is a rustle of your approaching steps.. the stars ask the moon, what is the answer to the riddle of this night? when will these roads converge so we can meet? episode ends Hamlet53 5.10. 14

Kala's sadistic pleasure of seeing her mother in agony, is insatiable ..her mother keeps wondering why Kala is so evil?? not once does it cross Aye Sahib's mind , that she may have failed to give support to Kala ..right from when she was a young eight year, after witnessing her father being murdered by her uncle.. that the child needed victim support ..

Baji is such a support , Dutta knew how crucial it was for Baji to survive the ill- fated accident.. as he alone can keep Naku and his family together.

Dutta is an honourable man and faithful husband.. this episode shows it. In a room with his ex-lover.. who cares for him.. almost risks her life for him.. he knows she has feelings for him..he's physically getting all the signals from her.. he could have reciprocated to show his appreciation for all she's doing to ensure the safety of his life.. instead he honourably tells her he's moved on and wishes her all the best for her future too.. Dutta does not take advantage of Seema.. dare I say.. is she trying it on with him.. prompted by a may be?? But Dutta stoically comes clean with her..
