Episode ~60

Dutta 's den
The episode continues from the point when Naku and Dutta are having a conversation following Dutta's rendezvous with Supriya on the terrace. Naku brings him his dinner. He is devouring dessert with a dessert spoon. Naku is chatting away, merrily, she explains, love makes a person see beauty everywhere, bitter memories fade away.. Dutta chews his dessert, and replies, I don't know.. Naku challenges him Saab you can try and hide it! but I can see, you too have fallen in love.. Dutta looks at her confused, and says, I too am in love? what do you mean? she quickly pours water in a glass and replies, like Supriya Tai is in love with you.. he remains quiet, and Naku badgers him , tell me the truth Saab you liked her singing didn't you?. I saw you were amazed isn't that so? he lowers his eyes and she asks him , Saab why do you hide what is in your heart? you should express what your heart feels..if you liked the song then why didn't you say so? say it Saab! and fed up he looks at her and replies, yes I liked it , she has a good voice.. and Naku protests, honestly Saab! she sang the song for you ! and you can only say she has a good voice! Say it how they say it in tv song contests, tempo and pitch is good and the song is good as well! and she giggles.Dutta lowers his eyes and muses.. Naku promotes Supriya , she was singing from the heart Saab, and her voice was full of love, now watch Saab your life will be filled with love, only love.. see your anger has subsided now.. he looks at his dessert bowl, then asks her out of interest, tell me one thing, have you had tuition in lessons of love when you were young?. Nau lowers her eyes embarrassed and looks away.. and then turns her face aside.. and he asks her casually, have you ever been in love? she looks up.. and slowly turns her wide eyed face towards him..and looks upon him with deep affection.. as he sits there munching his sweet dish.. and then slowly turns and lowers her head and nods.. no Saab .. he looks down at her from his chair, spoon in hand.. and sighs in disbelief , you have never been in love with any one? and day and night you give lessons about love.. he tells her off looking down into her eyes.. she looks up into his eyes, sheepishly .. she covers the platter on the tray, and replies softly , I understand about love ..and slowly and quietly picks up the tray and turns to leave. He sits in his chair with his back hunched and looks at his palm.. then suddenly as she reaches the door he calls out, hey wait ! she turns her head and he says, thanks for the food.. she replies , that's ok Saab .. and he carries on, you knew I hadn't eaten.. and you brought food for me , that's why.. now leave! He says , and Naku's face lights up with a smile... and she leaves as Dutta sits rubbing his palms.

Kitchen
Both Naku and Babi get on with the chores of cooking. Babi smiles and tells Naku , yesterday Supriya's Aye praised my cooking ,and in return I too said her daughter sang beautifully . Naku smiles.. and Babi asks her , you too liked her singing didn't you ? and Naku with quiet conviction says, yes Aye . Supriya comes and stands by the kitchen entrance. Babi notices her and is surprised, hey Supriya you up so early in the morning, want some tea it's made?. She declines with a smile and says, I wanted to speak to Nakusha... Babi is surprised, with Naku ? . Supriya comes over to Naku and says , Nakusha , you would know what your Saab likes and dislikes.. and Naku smiles back at her, and Supriya continues, I want to cook something for him today... will you give me a hand?.Naku looks around and then says , Tai breakfast is ready.. a disappointed Supriya looks at the cooked poha in a wok.. but Naku suggests, Saab likes karenji a lot. Supriya smiles, fine so you tell me where everything is and I'll make it. Naku looks at her mother and tells Babi , Aye you go, I'll manage .. and Babi looks at her daughter taken aback and says, ok then I'll take the poha then, you see to the tea.. and Babi departs.
The two girls start the bonding session..generally a nice scene as both act upon the saying, a way to a man's heart is through his stomach.. it's interesting to see here Supriya is dependent on Naku's help to get to Dutta 's heart.
Naku gets the ingredients and the cooking utensils ..they each divide the task, Naku prepares the filling and Supriya prepares the dough for the outer covering. Both are involved in the task Naku stirring and roasting the semolina and Supriya does the mixing and kneading of the dough.. the activity is symbolic too.. Supriya prepares, rolls out the balls of dough for the outer covering which is attractive and pleasing to the eye.. but Naku prepares the filling which takes longer to prepare, plus it contains other ingredients which are chopped and mixed in the semolina.. for the karonji to be tasty it's the inner filling that needs to be special with the right filling to be enjoyed fully.. the outer covering is like any other fried batter..shell..
With Naku her beauty and real essence of her personality is within her.. with Supriya her beauty is fake, and ordinary.
During the activity, Supriya sweats and toils .. but her cooking is not from the heart.. she cooks because she has to create an impress ..when Naku isn't looking she does pull a face and rolls her eyes... sad bit is she also manages to hood wink Naku .. who helps her in finishing off the dish to impress her Saab.
Outside Aye Sahib is on the phone looking to the wedding arrangements. She intrusts the tailor that the servants of the household need new clothes for the wedding so they need to have their measurements taken... she says the tailor needs to coordinate with Baji. Dutta sits on the red lounge settee one leg over the other, flicking through a file. His plate sits before him on the lounge table. Aye Sahib , receives the pandit' phone and confirms the arrangements. Baji paces behind her on the phone. Aye asks Baji , what happened about the shehnai player? Baji pulls a face, seems he has forgotten .. and assures her he was about to phone him.. and Aye tells him off , don't make me angry Baji. and warns I am Dutta's Aye don't you forget it! and Baji gives a dimpled smile.. as Dutta listens and then carries on looking through his file.

Kitchen
In the kitchen Naku plates the karanji .. and then with a smile offers the plate to Supriya. Dutta sits outside one leg over the other.. busy with his file.. Supriya carries the plate and comes into the lounge from the kitchen.. Naku follows her.. Supriya stands by Aye Sahib sitting on the red sofa
Baji says loudly, great karanji ! and Dutta looks across. Aye Sahib smiles , that's nice, but what's the occasion .. Supriya smiles shyly.. and Naku speaks for her loudly, Tai made it with her own hands, for Saab..and Supriya looks his way , catches him looking , but he straightaway lowers his eyes and continues to look at his work papers. , and she looks disappointed. Baji smiles and comes near the plate to help himself, I want some!.. and he grabs one ready to eat.. but Naku tells him off , Baji! let Saab be served first! Baji pulls a disappointed face and puts the karanji back on the plate.. crestfallen, and Aye Sahib turns to him, don't worry I find a girl for you who'll cook nice dishes for you , and Baji sighs, and says .. when will that day arrive? Aye smiles at him and says , it'll come now go and do some work.
Naku smiles at Supriya and visually tells Supriya to go and serve Dutta .. Dutta is still studying his file.. Supriya comes and stands beside him.. Naku whispers with body language for her to go ahead..and Supriya gingerly picks up a couple of keranji and puts it on the side of his plate of poha. Baji yells from far, put one more! But Dutta says firmly enough! Supriya snubbed lowers her eyes and Naku notes and stands silently behind her and Supriya slowly puts back the third one back in the plate and Dutta lowers his eyes, then looks up at her, and while all wait he closes his file puts it on the table and picks one up and is just about to eat it but stops as he realizes he is being watched..his eyes move to his mother, Baji who quickly pretends to attend his phone and says.. currently not reachable, Naku who giggles.. and then Supriya who to waits and he moves his hand with the karonji in it as if to say what?.. and she lowers her eyes.. smiles and leaves his side to offer it to Aye and Baji , Naku nods her head at Baji all smiles to indicate all good when she sees Dutta eating the karanji. Supriya offers it to Baji who takes a bite and says yummy ! Bhau what a tasty karanji Dutta looks.. at Baji and then moves his face to one side and quietly chews his the food and looks vacantly in space.. silently. Aye compliments Supriya's efforts and says, it's very tasty, your Aye must have taught you.. Supriya nods shyly with a smile.
Dutta finishes eating and gets up and in a business like tone calls, Baji !come here! that boy Suraj .. that inspector what's his name? and Baji says khan.. Dutta says yes , he said for two days they roughed him up! now he's come to his senses...Dutta steals a glance at Supriya and says, let's forgive him.. Baji goes ,what? and Dutta instructs calmly , get him bailed out.. and then he tells his Aye Aye Saab, I'll leave now ..and he leaves. Aye Sahib calls Baji , you stay back and give me a hand with something guruji requires for the wedding... she moves over and pats Supriya's cheek lovingly.. Naku does note that Supriya is dejected due to Dutta's ingratitude..

Kitchen
While Babi works in the kitchen, with her back to worktops. Supriya sneaks in and surreptitiously , takes out two pieces of karanji for her beloved Ravi in a bowl.. covers it with her chunni and slyly slips out of the kitchen... unnoticed, unseen, unheard..
Dutta's study
Dutta queries Baji about certain business deals and suggests they make use of Khan being in office.. he talks about expansion of a particular project near the high way..
In short this was a business meeting the two are having in Dutta's room with Baji on the phone verbally throwing his weight around.
Naku turns up and watches them. Suddenly she interrupts. Saab , didn't you like the karanji?.. Dutta and Baji stops and Dutta with a little difficulty says half convincingly, it was good..and then turns to Baji and reverts to their own conversation. But Naku butts in , so you should say it Saab! and he turns his head towards her.Naku continues emphatically, everyone praised her but you didn't say anything. Dutta growls and moves to his dresser table to get his phone, mumbling, is karanji made to eaten? or to be praised? .. Baji sits down. Naku continues, Saab she made it for you.. Dutta eyes on the phone.. replies so what should I do? I ate it. Naku taps her head .. you are so silly, Saab you don't understand if you ate it then give praise that you liked it! , Supriya Tai , her face just fell, she was so upset.. Baji with open mouth turns his head from her to him.. Naku continues, do you know how laborious it is to make karanji ? kneading the flour,..mixing the dry fruits.. grating the coconut..then stuffing it , flattening it , then deep frying it Baji sat looking up jaw dropped .. and Dutta yells stop! ..enough...and he slowly walks towards her, we are trying to work here and you are talking about making karanji... Baji laughs, such a silly girl! Dutta looks down at him why are you laughing? do you want to learn , how to make make karanji? and Baji says ye Baji! I mean no Bhau! why would I want to learn it? Naku who is not amused says, Saab a woman has to break her back and sweat a lot to make such good karanji.. Dutta muses and then asks her... tell me something, you, your Aye and other kitchen hands in the kitchen, who work day and night in the kitchen.. do they expect appreciation?.. Naku smiles and says, of course Saab .. but we are not important Saab.. Tai , is in love with you...
Dutta ponders, and then stubbornly replies, I said I liked it. ..what more can I do? should I roam around he house! with a karanji tied to my neck?.. Baji cackles, Bhau! but Naku persists to show him the point.. Saab if you praise someone..say nice things about each other..the heart feels good...it makes love grow... he looks into her eyes and she continues.. but you don't know how to express feelings Saab ... she gives him a sad look,. Turns her head and then her body and walks away. Dutta looks at her back suspiciously and says , has this girl gone crazy? Baji sniggers behind Dutta and says, Bhau I don't know about her! but I think someday she'll make you crazy! and Dutta ponders... and Baji carries on , but Bhau Koel was right about one thing, girls like appreciation.. will Dutta now pay heed.. since Baji has reinforced the same thing..
Baji teases , oh Bhau shall I tell you a verse about karanji? and Dutta walks off and Baji moans, all my talent is wasting here!

Kala's room.
Kala enters her room followed by her two sisters.. she complains at the mess around pieces of paper with crayon pictures.. she moans, I told Kishore to look after Anay and he can't handle a simple thing..as if I am the only parent, I must have been crazy to marry such a man! Roops adds so cute Tai isn't it? Kala glares at her.. and Leela says what's so cute about crayons? Roops corrects, Tai not crayons but karanji !Supriya vahini made it for Dutta Bhau!.. and Kala gives a bemused expression.. episode ends.. Hamlet~53, 17. 1i. 13.

The episode is pleasing in the main, with Naku and Dutta moments where she continues to veer him into believing in love. How love conquers all grief and transforms a person's life. There is mirth from his side as he makes gibes at her dictates of love. There is also a melancholic profundity when she discloses she has not fallen in love.. but is aware of it's significance.
The kitchen scene also shows Naku offering support this time to Supriya.. it's all about Naku being involved with everything which ultimately leads to supporting Dutta in one way or another.
The one most significant aspect of the episode has to be , Naku in her own brash simple down to earth manner showing him the importance of praising someone's effort.. in the beginning it's about Supriya singing.. in the end it's about Supriya' cooking..
It's as if she reminds him that he needs to be aware of peoples effort , and that in order to give them credence, verbal praise is important and shows the person on the receiving end that he or she is valued.. thus Naku slowly teases and nurtures out the golden and sensitive side of the Don named Dutta Bhau.
Even in the kitchen, Babi touches on the lift praise gives to the receiver.. when she tells Naku , Supriya's mother praised her culinary efforts and that in turn Babi showered praise for Supriya's singing.
The episode also gives an indication to Supriya that Dutta has compassion when he refers to Suraj being offered bail... Last but not the least great batasha scene in the end..
