Here's the letter I've drafted for the PH and the others, dunno if I'll be able to send it anytime soon. Incase I don't send it out today, I'll let someone know and one of you please forward it. Hope this will do!
I'm just another viewer. And the word would mean more when I say that Laagi Tujhse Lagan is the only television soap I watch religiously. In that I do not miss a single episode. I've been asked if I am obsessed with the show, it's probably true considering that I love the story, and the characters and can go on and on about it.
True, it never started out as a winner, because it was never in the race. There was no hoo-hah, no cliches, no eyeball popping techniques to attract viewers. Just a story that had soul. In an age where shows resort to lowdown techniques to gain viewership, LTL has maintained its standards. Well, it hasn't had to do much, thanks to some brilliant writing, amazing characterization and class actors! Why do I love this show? It isn't emotionally manipulative, does not overdo it, and just depends on the story, and the characters to prove its worth.
Never have I seen such brillant, layered characters on Indian television. Be it the magnificent Dutta, the psychotic Kala or the unbelievably angelic Naku! Well, what can I say! This show has won me over, it has given me hope, it has reaffirmed my faith everytime I've been down and out. And I think I have every right to be obsessed with something as beautiful!
It's mighty difficult to get someone to say that they love a show for its sheer honesty. Let me tell you, it is this honesty that has kept me going, patiently, through all of the channel's crazy promotion schemes(non-promotion?), dragfests, and editing glitches. Laagi has a refreshing honesty and old-world charm that I haven't seen in any show for a long time. It does not deal with a pseudo-social issue, its characters are not black and white, they are honestly grey! They win, they lose, and most of all, with each passing day they change, they grow. Kudos to you, the channel, and the creatives for coming up with something so beautiful. And the intricacy that has gone into building each character with poignant emotional layers, it has me stumped! Its been emotionally charged, this journey, and I can honestly say that I've grown with Nakusha and Dutta. I've seen them grow, seen them overcome their trials, seen them fight and never give up. It is a love story indeed, but it is a love story that talks of two people falling in love over and over again, till they become the people they were meant to be. Nothing can be quite as beautiful as this!
I believe that the greatest stories are those that talk of the triumph of the human spirit. LTL has been that for me!
I've invested so much in this show, so its only fair that I ask you to respect my emotions. You cannot just create a show that's touching and honest and then destroy it all because of paltry offscreen politics. Naah, if you were serious about the show, you'd invest as much as viewers like me had done. I've always loved this show because it's been unpredictable, and has given me more than I asked for. It's been a downward spiral ever since the rumors have come out, and then with Jayesh Patil's exit, the focus on certain characters changed. Yes, I'm talking about Dutta. Naku is central to the story but it's Dutta and Nakusha together that make it worthwhile, Naku alone is just soulless! You know better than to change the storyline or take away the focus from Dutta(MISHAL)!
I speak for every single person who has loved this show, almost lived it for the past year. Every person who has been perceptive enough to see that there is more to this show than a don and his love. We've noticed every little nuance the writers have added, nothing goes unseen. Trust me, its not just fangirly tantrum here, we're much more than that. Just like LTL is much more than a show! And if you destroy a show like this, you might as well say goodbye to the bracket of intellectuals that subscribe to your channel for something more than mindless drama. LTL has been, and will remain one of its kind. Please save this show!
