Ask, and you shall receive, my dear friends!😆😆
TB interviews Chinmayee Sumeet about the character of Babi and other fun stuff!😉
Telebirdie: Welcome, welcome. Thank you for sitting down with us and talking about your character, Babi. You know she's ..errmm...controversial...
C: Controversial?
TeleBirdie: Yes, as in Ambani-building-a-billion-dollar-house annoying type of controversial. Just gets under your skin, you know what I mean? Makes you want to run up to them and say "what the hell is wrong with you?"
C: Uuhhh....I think so.
TB: Great, so let me ask you. I watch LTL, love it....loved it more before to be honest...but I've got to say your character is very unnerving to watch...
C: Nahi, she is just trying to protect her daughter. You have to understand...Babi is not a bright lady...
TB: You can say that again...
C: uhhh...she ..........this whole situation is too much for her, she does not know what to do. You can't blame her...
TB: Don't even get me started on that Chinmayee ji...I mean, my readers always write to me about Babi...can I share some letters with you?
C: Sure....
TB: I should warn you, though, they're not so pleasant.
C: Oh...
TB: Little Birdie, read the first one.
LB: Ok, maam.
TB: When are you going to stop that annoying ma'am stuff. Look at me, I'm young!
LB: I'll stop calling you that ma'am, when Naku stops calling Dutta Saab...how's that?
TB: Don't be so facetious...with me. It's ok with others though....
Dear TeleBirdie:
I'm so sad. I've lost my Mishal--no earrings, no gussa, no shower scenes...
TB: Little Birdie, skip that, move to the next paragraph on Babi
LB: Oh, sorry, ma'am...I just wanted to share the deep sadness over the lack of shower scenes....<silence> aahhh... that Ma-Beti....cry, cry, cry all day. With all their crying, they could singularly solve the drought problem. And that Babi....what kind of mother is she? First covering her daughter's face with soot? I mean who does that? Then you have that Bappa stuff...oh, God, I myself begged Bappa to please make her stop! But, like in the show, Bappa was not listening to me.
TB: So what do you have to say to that?
C: To that?
TB: Well, yes. It seems viewers are annoyed by your character...
C: I'm sure not all....I think many people are upset with Babi because of her fear and uncertainty, but she's human too. I think some viewers understand...
TB: Next LETTER !
LB: Dear TeleBirdie, I am nearing my wit's end. That FR drag thing...not only do I have to wait, but in the meantime I have to watch that Naku and Babi circus. Tell the truth, don't tell the truth? Ask Bappa to tell the truth, or not to tell Bappa to tell the truth? Rash or no rash? My kajal or Naku's kajal? I mean, HELLO???? Bappa is busy with making the sun rise, taking care of so many bigger problems, AND Babi and her beti want him to take some time out and come to the niwas and reveal her face? Poor Ganpat. I never thought I would say that. Now I understand it all--after having to live with Babi and Beti, I guess even I would be drinking myself all silly all day in some corner...so that when I have to see them again, their voices and drama would sound like the waves of the ocean...peaceful...
C: <mouth open, eyes wide open> Arre, what are these people writing?
TB: I know, Chinmayee ji, it is hard but you have to understand....your character is....errmm...polarizing. That's it! A good word! "polarizing"....I was afraid I'd have to use the "A" word again.."
C: "A" word?
Little Birdie: "Annoying" ma'am.
C: Oh...but I have to say you have to put yourself in Babi's shoes...
TB: KYA?
C: Understand from her perspective...her one daughter was taken, she wanted to protect her younger one...
TB: I think many viewers understand THAT although they may not agree with how went about it, but the frustration is with her NOT encouraging her daughter to tell the truth...Should a mother not teach her daughter to be upfront with herself, to be true to herself and have integrity?
C: Yes, she has taught Naku that...
TB: Chodo. Let's move on to another letter.
LB: "That Ganpat and Babi. Walking crazies, I tell you...those expressions on their faces. Oh, God, I blurt out laughing. Babi, with her confused expressions, and in moments of desperation, nodding her head no, opening her mouth to say something, but her brain has not caught up, so no words come out....and then THAT weird expression. Oh, God, I am haunted by that expression. If she does that during the face reveal like she did at the first wedding, I am going to throw my shoes at the TV...and not chappals...I'm talking my STILETTO HEELS!
C: ".....I don't know what to say....."
TB: That okay, Chinmayee ji. You can see, it is not you they have an issue with, but rather the character. Enough of the letters...let's talk about those expressions you have "CRAFTED" for your character...
C: Babi...you know...feels helpless often. She is scared, has always been scared and insecure. I wanted to show that uncertainty, that fear....like, for example, when Dutta was forcing Naku to marry him, Babi wanted to say something...but she knew she couldn't...I wanted to portray that helplessness, I wanted the viewers to see it on her face....
TB: Trust me, ji, I don't think anyone can forget those expressions...they're...unforgettable.😉
C: <nods>
TB: So what do you think is the future of Babi in this show?
C: I think she is an important character, person in Naku's life. Naku needs her mother....to help her think through things, what to do...
TB: "THINK?" Well, clearly, Babi has done that....😉 So are you saying, Babi is going to stay on the show?
C: Well, of course...
TB: I see...wow, I don't know what else to say. I'm.....errmmmm....looking forward to your "emotional" scenes...they make me and so so many other viewers CRY too.....😉
