Is it the traditional Maharashtrian dress that Dutta wears? Since he's taken off the jacket it seems more like the dress that I 've seen some Punjabi men wear?
This kurta-jacket style really makes him look awsomely macho😳 Especially when accompanied by his hands behind his back deep in thought pose.So much nicer than the so-called corporate dressing style most serial actors prefer. I never want to see him in jeans or a suit.

What he wears is a pathani which is common in certain parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Its not what you would find Indian men wearing...definitely not in small town Maharashtra where Dutta lives. In small town Maharashtra people would wear dhoti-kurta or kurta-pyjama if u talk of traditional wear. But mostly men of Dutta's age would wear jeans and shirt.
I suppose what Dutta wears is a part of his 'look'...something that makes the character look distinct from the other men on television. Because other men are usually royal princes, thakurs or businessmen. But Dutta is a mafia don so he I guess they didnt want to give him the usual corporate look.

So true😍 But why is a Maratha man dressed this way? I love the country background of Dutta's story. Ratnagiri, his not so educated dialect, super rich yet rustic simpleton. Honestly are all maharashtrian men like him? Is my dream man in that state?😳😳😳 Just curious! On second thoughts Dad will bury me alive

The dress is amazingly simple and basic with clean cuts and sombre, brooding colors...it perfectly sets off MR's stunning good looks! When a man has that kind of a personality, his clothes should actually accentuate that and not distract from it!

Pakistani dress for a Maharashtrian don? Strange but as Rosa says suits Dutta to the tee and certainly as you say distinct from the other men on television😊

In today's India clothes are no longer very region-specific! Pathani suits are pretty common these days throughout North India...
As to why Dutta was made to wear those...I'd say because he looks absolutely delectable in them! And they suit his character too...like him they are simple, basic, smart, austere and desi!

😆Are all Marathi men like that...definitely not. Lets not forget Dutta is fictional and the figment of someone's imagination. The actor playing Dutta is not even Maharashtrian. But no harm in dreaming is it?
I too agree on one thing...I love the contrast in his character...super rich like a king and yet a rustic simpleton. He can easily shift from being a well behaved prince to a roadside goonda.

Why they make him wear such clothes...its because of this:
