Do you realize something?? If Dutta doesn't read that letter and it gets lost/destroyed, he might never realize (at least for a long time to come) that Supriya was in fact cheating on him? He would believe that Naku destroyed his blissful life and keep on staring at Supriya's picture in his room with tears in his eyes for months! I did get that ominous feeling when he had ordered for the picture

I hope I am wrong.
