It seems that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi will emerge as the winner as the mother of all soaps. Reason?
The other two contenders, also from Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii
Zindagi Kay, have lost the race. While Kasauti went off air a few months back, the grapevine suggest that Kahaani is on its way out.
Insiders reveal that the show, which has Sakshi Tanwar playing the perfect Parvati bhabhi, is receiving dismal TRPs for the past few months. It all started with Zee's Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan garnering decent TRPs and devouring Kahaani's share. Also NDTV's newly launched Jassuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family has been giving tough competition to Kahaani. The dip in TRPs has begun to bother Balaji's creative department of late.
While it is argued that Kahaani does not have any story to tell anymore, Balaji's Kyunki is still doing well and is among the top five shows on the small screen. "Kyunki has been running for a long time. It's not only about Tulsi. The show has several other strong characters including Karan-Nandini, Ganga and Damini.
However in case of Kahaani, Parvati is the central character. None of the other characters are strong enough. The story revolves around her. The creative team has tried all possible things with Parvati. There is nothing left to weave around her anymore," explains the source.
It may be recalled that Balaji's Kasautii was the first to go off-air as they had exhausted all innovations with Shweta Tiwari's character Prerna. However, in Kahaani's case, while Sakshi has been a committed actor, she has not been keeping well of late. The source adds, "Sakshi is doing Mahabharata too. That does not leave her with much time in her hands. Kahaani is not doing well for a few months. This has left the channel (Star Plus) anxious. So, they have asked Ekta to come up with another show on the same time slot. Ekta's show Kis
Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, which replaced Kasautii is doing well. It's been rumoured that a non-Balaji show by Rajan Shahi might replace Kahaani." The source adds, "The IPL has also affected Kahaani badly.
However, Kahaani's contract with the channel has one more year to go. So it's trying hard to revive the TRPs. If this fails, the show might go off air by August." When contacted Ekta said, "This is a false rumour. Sakshi being unwell for two weeks has cost us dearly as she is the principal character of the show. But, Kahaani is not going off-air."
