What is an avatar?

According to the dictionary it's defined as

• An icon or animation to represent a participant used in Internet chat and games

• The manifestation of a person in a human or animal form (according to mythology)

To us IFians, it's a cute little picture depicting us, our favourite characters, our moods and our thoughts perhaps…..

The tutorial below has been provided by Bunty4ever.

Please follow the following steps to create an Animated Avatar:

1) Download Paint Shop Pro X and Animation Shop 3 from www.jasc.com

2) Once they have been downloaded Open PSPX (PAINT SHOP PRO X) and either open a picture or copy a picture into it. Then MAXIMIZE the picture window as you would to any other window and it will look like this.

2A) To crop the picture please select the selection tool on the left.

2B) Now please select the part you want to crop and double-click on it.

***NOTE: I have not cropped the picture in the example below.***

3) Click on Image at the top and then resize.

4) Once the Resize box appears unclick the "Lock Aspect Ratio" button and set the "Pixel Dimensions" to 100 by 100. Also make sure then box is set on Pixels and not Percent. Then press OK

***THE FOLLOWING STEP IS OPTIONAL***

OPTIONAL STEP) To add text to the avatar click on the letter Icon to the left and bring the cursor to wherever you would like on the avatar and type in the box that pops up.

OPTIONAL STEP A) Now go to Layers at the top then Merge >> then Merge All.

***OPTIONAL STEP COMPLETE***

5) Now copy the avatar you have created by pressing CTRL + C while on the Avatar.

6) Now open Animation Shop 3. Go to FILE >> NEW and press OK to the box that appears. Now you will see a small box on the right of your screen. MAXIMIZE it as you would MAXIMIZE any window and it will look like this below:

7) Now Paste the avatar you have created into Animation Shop 3 by pressing CTRL + V.

8) Now right click on the picture and select "Frame Properties." Once you click it you will see a box that apppears with the number 10 in it. Please set that box to either 100 or 110 and press OK.

9) Right click on the picture again and select "Animation Properties." Once you do you will see a box with three tabs. Please go to the "Looping" tab and set the loop to "Repeat the animation indefinitely" and press OK.

9) Now to add more pictures to the Avatar Please repeat steps 1-4 again with a different picture and simply copy it from PSPX and then to add another picture to the timeline in Animation Shop press and HOLD CTRL + SHIFT + L. This will add another picture to the timeline.

10) Please repeat steps 8-9 to the 2nd picture.

***OPTIONAL STEP***

OPTIONAL STEP) If you would like to add a fancy transition from one picture to another right click on the preceding picture and click "Insert Image Transition."

OPTIONAL STEP) Then once the box appears choose the type of transition you would like and press OK. Once the transition has been added you will see the picture in many frames. So to add another transition to the next picture go to the last frame of the previous picture and add another transition.

*** OPTIONAL STEP COMPLETE***

11) Add as many pictures you would like by repeating steps 1-10. Once you are done Save the animation. Press Next to all the following steps that appear once you press next and it will be saved. MAKE SURE THE FILE IS SAVED AS A GIF.

Then Upload the Avatar in any Image uploading program such as www.putfile.com. Once it is uploaded three links will appear. Please copy the first link and go to it.

Further Steps to what to do with the avatar will be provided soon. Once you have made it please keep it and I will let everyone know ASAP what to do with them and how to be part of the contest. We would like everyone to get a good feel with making them. Once everyone is comfortable the Contest will Begin.

I hope this tutorial helped many people but as I said before if there are any questions about the steps please post them below and I will answer it ASAP.

It is 30 Days Long so I think that will be enought time for everyone to make one for the contest.😆
