Was it difficult to play Lakshya (Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu thi)? Not really. Lakshya does bear a few similarities with my person- ality, but I also incorporated nuances that I pick up from peo- ple I meet. It's good to see that my inter- pretation of the character has been accepted by the viewers. Balaji Telefilms is said to be a hard taskmaster. Right? I've seen people complaining of long working hours but with the volume of work done, this is understandable. Right now, there aren't too many production houses that can give an actor this sort of expo- sure. Personally, I love being in front of the camera. That's what I'm here for, so I'd never crib about working hours, as long as the result is creatively satisfying. You're working with an experienced cast. What's your equation with them? They helped me overcome my limitations to a large extent. While all of them have been extremely helpful, Ronitda (Ronit Roy) has really been a mentor to me,he'salwaysbeentheretohelp. Who's your closest competition? None. I prefer focusing my energies on myself rather than worry about others. What do you think of the TV medium? The reach of TV and radio is unprecedented. With so many genres of programming today, there's something for everyone. Reality shows and talent hunts are making superstars. The medi- um offers people a wide platform and brilliant opportunities. Both these mediums have created quite a turn-around in the mindset of the viewers. Who is the King of television right now? I don't know about the King of television but I am the Samrat of television (laughs). Is your success in television bringing in offers for the big screen? I've got quite a few offers. I'm reading some scripts. Some have sparks of excitement but I'm yet to zero in on anything. There is a general perception that a TV actor can't make it big in films. Our attitudes define our altitudes. Shah Rukh Khan is a great exam- ple of this. Ultimately it all depends on our passion and convictions. I focus on the size of my vision rather than the size of the screen.
