Picture perfect: (l to r) Jayashree Thakker, MN Thakker, Kantaben, Smriti Irani and Ayesha

For 75-year-old Kantaben Thakker, it was a dream come true when Smriti Irani aka Tulsi Virani visited her at her Khira Nagar house in Santa Cruz (West) last evening. Kantaben was one of the crores of Indians who were shocked to see Tulsi die in Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi…

Smriti spent a good 30 minutes with the Thakker family, which included M N Thakker, the head of the family, daughters Jayshree and Hema and granddaughter Ayesha Thakker. Smirti reached the crowded SV Road around seven in the evening and surprised everyone by crossing the road and walking all the way to their building located right at the end of the society. Onlookers could not believe their eyes when they saw Smriti walking into the society coolly. Old ladies and uncles in the society started buzzing about with the inevitable question: Is it Tulsi? Does she know anyone here?

Once she reached the Thakker house, Kantaben could not believe her eyes and when Smriti addressed her as Ba, her eyes moistened instantly.

She was obviously very happy to see her Tulsi alive and well before her. Smriti met everyone in the family and the Thakkers laid out special Gujarati food for her — complete with dhokla, khandvi and sweets. 'Ba' was extremely happy that her Tulsi greeted her with a 'Jai Shree Krishna' and even paid her respects by touching her feet.

In no time, neighbours came rushing in and started clicking pictures. Smriti also went to the Thakker family kitchen and ate the dhoklas there. Smriti also chatted with some kids at the neighbour's house. After spending about half an hour with the family, Smriti left, once again walking through the society with children following her, clicking her pictures with their cellphones. A group of young boys asked her to pose for pictures and she asked them if they watched saas-bahu shows.

The young Ayesha also introduced a group of elderly gentlemen as her grandfather's friends who Smriti acknowledged with a 'Jai Shree Krishna' again. While she was leaving the compound, a middle-aged woman kept staring at her in disbelief. Finally, Smriti crossed the road, bid goodbye to everyone and rushed off to a meeting.

She left behind a group of people who are still wondering if it was a dream.
