Padmini wants to play Tulsi's role
Three names were there in the race as Smriti's replacement or as another powerful character like her who might be introduced in the show after her exit. So Padmini Kolhapure, Gautami Kapoor and Shefali Shah were there in the race.

Smriti is leaving Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She has worked in the show for seven years and for her viewers Kyunki means Tulsi and Tulsi means Kyunki. Three names were there in the race as Smriti's replacement or as another powerful character like her who might be introduced in the show after her exit. So Padmini Kolhapure, Gautami Kapoor and Shefali Shah were there in the race. It is said that Gautami's name has been finalized for the role ultimately.
Padmini's secretary Jovina says: "They had approached Padmini for the role; it was for Kyunki that's sure but which role I don't know. Many names were there in the race including Gautami and Shefali, but they had only called Padmini and Gautami together on Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock for the meeting. But then suddenly they informed us that meeting is cancelled because Ekta wanted to visit the mandir. After that they never contacted her. Then yesterday I read in the newspapers that Gautami's doing the role. So they must have selected her. Firstly when they contacted Padmini, Padmini was positively thinking about the offer, but she doesn't follow the show, so she wanted to discuss character with them. But as we didn't have the meeting so nothing happened. It is also said that Balaji's terms and conditions are too high. So I doubt whether she really would have managed to do it finally."
On the other hand Gautami says: "I didn't get any confirmation or intimation from Balaji and it's unfair for me to talk about it so I'm not going to talk about it. We had no meeting as yet. So let's see what emerges when we meet."
Kyunki's old script writer Vipul Mehta who made his comeback recently says: "We are just finalizing everything about it. I'm not in India now, I'm coming back tomorrow and I'll discuss this matter with Nevi (Nevidita Basu, creative head of Balalji). I don't think she is leaving the show. I heard that creative team yesterday had meeting with Balaji. We can't knock off her character completely as Tulsi and Kyunki are one and the same for us. Creative team has asked us to write her track in such a way that her character will be missing from the show. In next meeting we'll narrate the story to Ekta and she will decide further about it. But I don't think so it will affect the show as it is running powerfully for seven years, but whether TRP's will fall or not, that time will only tell. I don't meet her regularly. But whenever I meet her we discuss about the show. She is nice and very professional. She is excellent in her work and we share good rapport with each other."
It seems that nobody knows that who is going to replace Tulsi or Balaji is purposely keeping the matter secret. However nobody thinks that her exit will affect the TRP's of the show.
