'There's a dearth of decent men!'

Suvarna Jha is playing a character alien to her self; that of a mean and mailcious aunt in the mother of all soaps... Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She plays Trupti, Sahil's scheming second wife in the popular soap. Suvarna earlier played Mishti in Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai with Iqbal Khan. So, how was it playing aunt to someone her own age, Amit Tandon, especially when she played his friend in the afore mentioned soap?
"I was already well-ensconced in the role before the new generation came in and any adjusting that was done was done by the new generation. As far as playing aunt goes, it's all acting at the end of the day. The character you play is not really who you are. Playing a woman 20 years older than me doesn't make me that person," says Suvarna. How does she feel playing such a bitchy and negative character? "I don't feel it at all since I am always happy and laughing and having fun on the set, so much so that my director has to drag me to work and get me to shut up. I am a switchon, switch-off actor. I never get so deeply involved with a character that I have to carry the emotional baggage home with me. Alternatively, it is fun playing a harping, nagging wife and I simply can't imagine behaving like that in real life with anyone, least of all my man! Nobody has come upto me and pulled my hair or slapped me across my face or hurled abuses at me. The people who do come up to me compliment my acting skills and it's a good feeling. I am happy that they can differentiate between the person that is me and my on- screen character," she says. Given her hectic shooting schedules, Suvarna doesn't go out clubbing as much as she used to. She prefers going out for quiet dinners with friends or snuggling up with a good book or movie. What kind of books does she like to read? "I read just about everything except self-help books. I am not particularly motivated by them," she smiles. So, what's a girl like her doing in the dating department? "I am single simply because I am not dating anyone. That sounds asinine... No, seriously, there is a dearth of decent men and I haven't found anyone that I would like to be with," she adds.
