I’m glad I’m not playing a senior Mihir V

Amarr Upadhyay has no regrets about the decisions he has made in his career

Amarr Upadhyay's looking forward to doing movies again. He will soon start shooting for Mumbaii.com. "It's a comedy and we will start shooting soon," says an excited Amarr. So, does that mean he is taking a break from television again, as he'd done a few years ago? "Not at all. I will do both films and TV," he says with conviction. A few years ago, Amarr quit Star Plus' Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, at a time when he was he was immensely popular as Mihir Virani. Many felt it was a wrong move then, but Amarr has no regrets. "I'm glad I'm not playing a senior Mihir Virani today," he avers.
Amarr says he never took a break from television. "When I started doing films, two of my serials were winding up. My third serial Kyunki Saas... was taking a 20-year leap and so I decided to opt out. Some people told me I should continue, but the same people today feel I did the right thing. Because had I played a senior character, I wouldn't have got the offer to play a 28-year-old as I am doing in my serial Viraasat on Star Plus."
But, isn't it true that Amarr could never rekindle his Mihir Virani magic on the small screen again, because his return to TV was not as impactful. "No, I don't think that's the case. When I made a comeback, as you call it, on TV the TRPs of Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand on Star Plus went up. People appreciated me in all other serials that I did."

'TV serials are not my cup of tea'
