i think you are right. and karan didn't enter the show as a negative character. he came as the son who demanded his rights for his mother and himself. that's not considered negative. negative is when you willingly do bad stuff to other people, i.e.: meera and mandira.

Karan was evil when he joined because he wanted to punish Mihir and Tulsi for what they did to his mother. He also had a company that was a rival for virani's company. I even look back at the summary of the epiosde to make sure.
Karan, Tanya, Guatam, and Damini all were negative characters when they first came on the show.
