Reshmi Ghosh, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's Bhoomi is now a recognisable face as her role in the serial is gaining prominence. "The character was introduced in bits and pieces but gradually my screen time started increasing and now I am there in full blast," she gushes. But it was not always like that. She did taste success as a model and her Bengali films Egke Konya and Mayer Shopata too were "decent hits" according to her, but none of her other movies saw the light of day.
She says, "I did seven films, some from big banners, but none of them got released. I waited and waited but realised that there is no point in waiting endlessly doing nothing, except a few ad campaigns like Nerolac Paint, Neem Toothpaste, Coke (for the Sri Lanka market) and Junior Horlicks. I had to move on and being a positive person, I knew that if one door closes another opens." However Reshmi admits that she was getting depressed as none of her films were releasing. "Yoga helped me beat the blues," she admits.
This move resulted in her finally considering television as a career option. "When my films were not getting released I decided to open my doors to television to get the required exposure and invest my time and talent in serials. Of course I am still open to films and will go back to the big screen as and when I get the right roles from the right banners," she says.
Even though Reshmi finally decided to look towards TV, she was very choosy about whom she wanted to work with. If she was destined to do television the production house had to be Balaji. Luckily her father's friend introduced her to Shobha Kapoor and she got selected for a role in a serial that is yet to air. So how did she land Bhoomi's role? "Kyunki's generation leap was taking place and Ekta told me to play Bhoomi. She said 'You look like a bold, intelligent and beautiful girl' and the character suits my personality," says Reshmi.
Talking about her character she says, "She is a pampered child, Bhoomi is a grey character. She is full of life, straightforward and prefers to live within her own circle of friends. Ekta helped me understand the role and it took some time to get into the skin of the character." But what happens to the show she was originally meant to do? "I won't be doing that because I am completely occupied with Kyunki," she laughs.
