Shaw stopper

With Ektaa Kapoor betting on him as among the most promising faces of 2007, Naman Shaw already wears the Balajistamp of approval. Seen in 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' (Star Plus) and 'Kasamh Se' (Zee), Naman is the face to watch out for.

Role range

"I was supposed to do 'Krimson Skies' (Star One) with Balaji but it got delayed. While in 'Kasamh Se' I play Pushkar, a chocolate hero, in 'Kyunkii…' as Nakul I have grey shades. I am Damini's (Riva Bubber) and Gautam's (Sumeet Sachdev) son who has been adopted by Ganga (Shilpa Saklani). I play a poor guy who has not been treated well and so I want to make money," he explains.

Balaji bhakt

Naman had earlier won the 'Best Smile' title at the Grasim Mr India pageant and was a model before he participated in the talent show 'Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj'. Refusing to accept inane roles in B grade films Naman switched tracks to TV. "Name and fame comes from Balaji. They promote you in the best possible way. It's better to do two plum roles than 10 insignificant ones," says Naman. He adds, "To pray for the success of 'Kasamh Se', Prachi Desai (Bani) and I walked with Ektaa to Siddhi Vinayak temple."

Survival truths

The boy who travelled from Kolkata to realise his dreams, is now well acquainted with the rules of the tinsel world. He says, "Stay focussed or you lose your job. There are so many guys ready to take your place. You need to reinvent and market yourself." So how would he rate himself? "I am a complete package with decent looks, acting skills and a good personality," he evaluates.

Girl talk

Naman is enjoying his growing popularity with girls. "For a scene in 'Kasamh Se', I happened to rattle off my cell number. Soon I was flooded with calls," shares Naman. The happy-go-lucky actor seeks a light-hearted mate and says, "I'd want a bubbly and an optimistic girl, who's always smiling. A smile lights up an atmosphere!"

Quiz him on the recent allegations of him sharing close proximity with co-actor Ram Kapoor and he dismisses them saying, "I don't care for cheap publicity. I took it as fun."
