Balaji castaways join hands

After being ousted from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Om and Savita get together for a forthcoming show, Resham Dunk

One person's loss is another's gain. Soon after actors Kiran Karmarkar and Apara Mehta were shown the door by Balaji, they have been roped in by producer JD Majethia. Popular as Om of Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki and Savita of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , the actors will be seen in Majethia and Aatish Kapadia's new show tentatively titled Resham Dunk, to be aired on Star One.

The actors have already begun shooting for the show. Karmarkar, excited about his second innings, says, "I'm playing a character called Shantanu Balraj who is always sozzled. He is an alcoholic but means no harm."

"There are various characters in the show but each one is well etched out." says Karmarkar. With a good show and two plays under his belt, his plate looks full. "I want to concentrate on quality work. At the end of the day I have to be satisfied with the kind of work I do," he says.

Apara Mehta will also make a beginning of sorts with this show. She says, "After quitting Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, I've been tied up with Saat Phere. It's great to work with JD. We know each other well as we both come from a theatre background. I'm sure this will be the beginning of a great working relationship."

Apart from Karmarkar, Mauli Ganguly, Sumit Ragahavan and Rahil Azam too will be seen in pivotal roles. The show revolves around Shantanu's drinking problems and his subsequent ouster from the family. Eventually, his brother is instrumental in getting the prodigal son home.
