Pradhan talks about her attitude problem, her introverted nature and
starting a family
Reena Thapar Kapoor
You prefer to keep a low profile. Why is that?
An actor's life is an open book, anyway. People know a lot about our
lives already and I wouldn't like to read more about my personal
life in print.
One often hears that you make co-stars feel insecure…
Ekta told me that she has a fabulous role for me in Kyunki Saas Bhi
Kabhi Bahu Thi and I just went with the flow. I don't know if others
felt threatened by my presence in the show. When I'm in front of the
camera I only concentrate on my dialogue and performance.
You've been accused of having an attitude problem.
I admit that when I meet people, I never take the initiative to
break the ice. It takes a lot for me to start a conversation with
people I don't know well. I'm an introvert, perhaps that's why I
have the reputation of being unfriendly. Though I must admit that
I've improved a lot after my husband Hiten (Tejwani) came into my
life. He has made me open up to people much more.
You are associated with select work. Why?
On television, I may only be seen in Kyunki... but there is a lot
more that I've involved myself in. I love to read, travel and learn
different languages. I cannot stick to doing just one thing. I've
also done Special Squad on Star One. When I take up a new show, it
has to be better than the best. I cannot be part of mediocrity.
You are the dominating one at home. Comment.
I'm not dominating at all. Coming from an army background I have
always been disciplined. At one point, I refused to work after ten
at night. During the shooting of Kutumb, at 10 p.m. sharp I'd take
off my wig and announce pack-up. I'd told Hiten that he wouldn't be
allowed in at home if he came later than the deadline. But in our
profession, it's not practical to be disciplined. Hiten is a lot
more possessive of me than I am of him.
What are your future plans?
We're both working hard to make sure that our future is secure.
Hiten and I have just bought a new house and we're expecting to move
in by March or April. Once I've settled in and if my work load is a
little less then, I will think about starting a family.
However, before that I've told my husband that he has to take me on
a world tour.
