Television's big night out
It was the mother of all nights - at least for television. The Hero Honda Indian Television Academy Awards, 2005 were held at the Bhavan's College Ground in Andheri (W), on November 7.
The evening was set out by none other than the unparalleled duo of Smriti Z Irani and Ronit Roy. The other anchors included Rajeshwari - Varun Badola and Samir Soni - Rakhshanda Khan.
The Awards were interspersed with musical performances by TV stars. The hep and peppy College Act, the naughty and sizzling Mujra Act, the rip-roaring take-off on shaadi in the Marriage Act were some of the rocking performances. The highlight of the evening was a performance by the irrepressible duo Ronit and Rohit Roy along with the sensuous Shweta Tiwari whirling and swirling to 'Kajraare...' from Bunty Aur Babli.
There was a musical tribute to the film stars who have come onto the small screen. Eijaz Khan, Roopali Ganguli, Jennifer Winglet, Rucha Gujrati and Jassi Kaur danced to the foot-tapping numbers of yester-years and then, escorted Asha Parekh, Aroona Irani, Moushami Chatterjee, Reena Roy and Jeetendra to the stage at the beats of their respective songs.
Says Anu Ranjan, the ITA President, "It is for anybody to see that the ITA and the TV fraternity are, today, looked together as siamese twins. We are 'inseparables'. The ITA has celebrated the glory of television for five years now and mark my words, will continue to do so till our last breath".
Also present at the function were Shatrughan Sinha, Ramesh Sippy, David Dhawan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Perizad Zorabian, Pooja Bedi, Samir Nair, Tarun Katiyal, Deepak Segal, Aroona Irani, Mona Singh, Ekta Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, Mona Wasu and Nikki Aneja to name a few.
