Riva better known as Damini needs no introduction. Her recent assignments include Cadbury's, Ponds, Sunsilk, Rin, Camlin, Lifebouy, Maruti, Johnson & Johnson, Pantene, and BPL. She worked as a model and was recommended by a friend from the modeling agency to Neena Gupta for Kyun Hota hai pyar. From then onwards there was no looking back. She played the role of Dr Kavya in Ayushmaan and Damini of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and is entering as Sonia to add sparkle to Yug's life in Kavyanjali. She is the central character of the late night thriller K Street Pali Hill.
She has won the "Best Jethani" award at Star Parivar Awards for her role of Damini in Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi.
This clever lass has done her schooling from Manickji Cooper School, Mumbai and her B.com from Mithibai College from Mumbai.
Neena Gupta liked her in one of her ads and decided to take her for the role of Nikki in her new serial Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar. Neena is not the type who dishes out serials for the heck of it. She translates an idea into a show only if she is sure about it. Her character has touched the inner core of most hearts. Nikki is a very level-headed girl with her morals and ethics in place. Despite peer pressure, she safeguards her values. It is not only the teenyboppers but also grown-ups who favour the character.
Several elders recognise me on the road, come up to me, and say, "Are you Nikki? We wish that we had a daughter just like you.
" On being asked how close she was to her character of Nikki she says ," Very close. I was just like Nikki in college. I kept to myself and had a few friends. But yes, unlike Nikki's earlier attire, I rarely wore salwaar kameez ."
During the same time one day she got a call from the Balaji camp for the role of Damini in Kyunki. Actually, she was offered two serials by Balaji Telefilms around the same time - Kya Haadsa Kya Haqeeqat and Kyunki... Obviously, she couldn't take up both so Ekta Kapoor took the call. She wanted me to do Kyunki....And she feels after working with Balaji, she has got true recognition. People liked her acting. And it is a usual trend that they start associating you and calling you with the name of your character.
But she left the role in between, as the role was becoming negative and she never wanted to do it and even the channel and Ekta thought that she didn't look negative, so they parted. I could not identify with the change at all. I could not digest the amount of negativity. It was too drastic. I couldn't figure out why the entire Virani parivar had to suffer because Gautam has tricked Damini into marrying him? I would have wanted Damini's retaliation to be a bit subtle. When the character was to become positive again they called her for the role.
She feels Kyunki is her second family...She says, "When I was new to the show I was in awe of Baa, Tulsi and Apara. The strangest thing was I had met Smriti way back during our modelling days but I thought she might not remember me so I kept quiet but then she actually brought it... Everyone actually went out of their way to make me feel at home. I miss it when I am not shooting for Kyunki..."
She got the chance to show her talent and whenever she use to make mistakes they taught her to do it properly. She learnt many things from Sudha Shivpuri, Smriti and others.
After seeing her talent Balaji opted her for the role of "K-street Pali Hill" and a cameo in Kavyaanjali.
I am a spontaneous actress. I don't rehearse much. I just have to get into the skin of my character and emotions come pretty quickly to me.
However, sometimes when I see my scenes on the monitor, I feel I could have been better. At other
times, even if a particular scene is Okayed by my directors, I tell them I could do it better and ask for a retake.
Anyway, I like my directors to give me a little flexibility in the way I enact my scenes.'
The debonair liquor baron Yug Mittal (Hiten Tejwani) of the Star daily Kkavyanjali has just acquired some female company.
Riva Bubber enters this Balaji show as Sonia to add sparkle to Yug's life.
So, will it there be that proverbial chemistry between Sonia and Yug? "At the moment I am unaware of how the track shapes up," says Bubber, who has begun shooting for Kkavyanjali at a Chandivali studio.. "
Sonia is an NRI who has just returned to India and meets up with Yug," says model-turned-actress Bubber. "I will be there for a few episodes initially as my role is a cameo. Later, it all depends on how the character develops.
" For Bubber, the timing of this offer is just apt as Ayushmaan on Sony has ended. As Dr Kavya, she not only played Ayushmaan's love interest but also treated his autistic brother Bodhi (Hemant).
"As I recently finished with Ayushmaan,I had time on hand. I took on this offer because it was from Balaji and it is always great to work with them," she adds.
Prior to Bubber's selection, the name of Gauri Pradhan (Ganga of Kyunki) was under consideration for the role.
