Okay so here's the next installment

Chapter 2

A little background on the Virani's just so that we're on the same page;

Karan and Nandini are together, and Tanya is out. Manthan still loves Nandini as his mother.

Sahil and Ganga are together again and married. The whole Trupti issue is over and she's out of the picture.

Nakul and Sanchi are about to get married soon.

Joydeep and Bhoomi's relation is at the point where Joydeep has had his make-over, and he's completely uninterested in Bhoomi.

Abhir still thinks that Archita was cheating on him and starts to hate her, while Archita is trying to convince him that she loves only him.

Mihir is still looking for Tulsi and is still in his depressed state.

None of the children hate each other anymore and everyone lives together happily.

It was a typical morning in Shanti Niketan.

Everyone got up, got ready, prayed, and sat down to breakfast on the enormous table. The elder Virani men all finished eating, so got up and headed out to work together. Soon after, Eklavya, Lakshya and Joydeep got up together too. And Nandini noticed yet again that Manthan sat in his spot talking to Bhoomi, but made no attempt to join his brothers.

"Manthan beta," Manthan looked up from his conversation expectantly, "Why don't you go to office today as well for a change?"

Manthan made a sour face, "No way mom, office isn't for me. It's too boring there."

"But beta, you have to start taking up your responsibilities again right? I think maybe you should go, till you figure out what you really want to do."

Lakshya added, "Yeah bhai, you should come, and we'll show you how we have fun at work."

Manthan was still grumbling, when Bhoomi nudged his side, so he got up and went to change into something formal for work. When he was ready, he left reluctantly with his brothers.

Tulsi was beyond shocked. "What?!?" Are you two out of your minds?"

"But baa!" Kt quipped up, "We have no future here. There's no work for us"

"I don't care Krishna. Both of you can sit at home till you're married, but neither of you is going to Mumbai alone. Vaidehi, I'm sure your parents will agree with me."

Vaidehi gave it one more desperate try, "But baa, we won't be alone. We'll have each other. We'll try and find work at the same place and we'll live together and always be there for each other. Right Kt?"

Kt nodded enthusiastically, but this didn't convince Tulsi.

"You are not going, and that's final. I want no more discussions on this"

With that Tulsi walked out of the house.

"Vaidehi, I told you baa would never agree. Now she's going to remain mad at me all day.

But Vaidehi was determined. She would speak to her parents, try and convince them, and then have them convince Tulsi.

Radha stood against the door, crying. Jaya came angrily to her, "Radha how could you promise to pay him? If you pay him rent, then how will I run the house?"

"But Aai, if I don't pay him, he'll kick us all out!"

"Don't you think I know that? But couldn't you reason with him to give us a little more time? It's not like your salary is that great, that we can afford house payments as well as run a kitchen. What was the need to promise a payment right away?" After a pause she added, "Why do you always disappoint so much Radha?"

"But aai..." Radha called out, but Jaya had already walked off, followed by a gleeful Meghna.

Fresh tears rolled out of Radha's eyes.

All the Virani men were sitting in the conference room discussing issues.

Karan cleared his throat and announced, "Okay, I have one last thing I want to tell you guys" He beamed around at the youngsters and continued, "We've all decided that you guys won't all work in one cabin, like you have till now. We've been getting separate offices built for all of you."

"But why Chachu? There was no real need for that" asked a confused Eklavya.

"Because beta, we've noticed that the particular room you all work in is the noisiest. God only knows how you guys get any work done in there."

"Oh, Eklavya bhai keeps us all on track chachu" said Lakshya, trying not to laugh.

"And" Karan added, "you guys have only one secretary, and you harass the poor thing enough"

Manthan raised an eyebrow when Joydeep winked at Lakshya and even the stiff, Eklavya grinned.

"So" Sahil concluded, "We've posted adds in the papers for new secretaries for all but one, who gets to remain with your present one. You guys decide who wants a new one or wants to keep the old one."

"I'm shocked. You guys harass your secretary? Specially you Eklavya Bhai? And Joydeep, you're married to my sister."

"It's not what you think Manthan. Sheetal is just a really confused and lost kind of person. It's easy to distract her too because she's very forgetful. So Joydeep and Lakshya take full advantage of this."

"I told you bhai, we'll show you how we have fun at work"

Joydeep, with a serious face, "I'm keeping Sheetal. I don't want to have to train another person. She's good at her work. Plus she's 24 hour amusement, I can't give that up."

"Okay, so Manthan, Lakshya and I need to interview new candidates"

Radha, preparing for another couple of hours of overtime, got ready for work and joined her family at the breakfast table.

When Radha sat down she noticed that her mom Jaya, brother Avinash, and bhabhi Meghna all had delicious looking Paratha's in their plates. But in front of her was sitting dry bread and butter.

"Sorry Radha" Jaya said, not sound sorry at all, "there was only enough filling for 3 paratha's. If you really want one, I can give you half of mine."

"No need aai. You go ahead and eat. I love bread-butter."

Radha watched her family eat, thinking that at least they were happy, but hardly touched her own breakfast. "Aai, I'm thinking of looking for a new job. This one doesn't pay too well, and the hours are really bad."

"Radha you should do any job you get without complaint. They still pay you for it right? Who knows if you do a good or bad job. Do what you have to do."

Radha looked down sadly at the 'Classified' section of the newspaper, and started circling potential placements she was interested in. One of them was a classified for a secretarial job with the Virani's.

Chapter 3

Tulsi was sitting on the steps at the water's edge, brooding over the past. Over everything she had done for everyone she loved. And everything that they said and did in return for that. She felt a hand rest on her shoulder, and looked up to find Kt sitting beside her.

"Baa, I'm really sorry" Kt mustered in a small voice.

Tulsi turned her face away and looked at the calm water.

"Aren't you going to forgive your Krishna, baa? I know Vaidehi and I went a little overboard. But baa, all I wanted was a chance. A chance to make you proud of me."

Tulsi was surprised, "Krishna, I'm always proud of you beta, no matter what you do, I will be there for you."

"I know baa, and that's the thing. You've always been there for me, but I've never had the chance to be there for you. And I saw this as an opportunity to do something for you. To make your life better. And I thought that since a place like Mumbai is so big, is would be perfect for me to do something small."

"Krishna, Mumbai's a big place, with bad people. There horrible things can happen to you without you even realising it. You have to have strength and courage to face a place like that. And I have complete faith that you will be able to"

"Wait so.... is that a yes? You're letting me go?"

Tulsi hesitated a little, but seeing the glowing face of Kt, she smiled and nodded.

"Oh Baa! I love you" Kt hugged Tulsi hard.

As Nakul and Sanchi's wedding was coming up soon, the women of the Virani house had called over a couple of jewellers and sari sellers, which would save them a shopping trip. The living room looked like a sort of store itself.

Bhoomi and Archita were given the task of selecting clothes for Sanchi, since they knew her best.

"Bhoomi, Archita" baa called out, "now the both of pick something out for yourselves as well, since it's getting late and these people have to leave"

Bhoomi sat down in from of the huge expanse of sari's running her fingers over the closest ones, trying to spot a good one. She saw something yellow under the huge mass and pulled it out.

It was a light yellow sari, with gold edgings and patters. Simple and elegant. Archita spotted the sari too and in a teasing tone said "Joy bhaiya's favourite colour!"

Just then Joydeep walked in with all his other brothers and heard the comment. Bhoomi looked up at him, smiling, but he ignored her and went straight to their room, wiping the smile from Bhoomi's face.

Bhoomi walked into her room and saw that Joydeep was in the bathroom. She held up the sari against her, admiring it in the mirror when Joydeep walked out wearing night clothes.

Bhoomi smiled at Joydeep through the mirror, but he didn't as much as look at her. Just walked by her to the bed.

Bhoomi watched for a minute and saw that Joydeep sat on the bed, took out his laptop, and got busy working on it.

She turned to him "Isn't this sari pretty Joydeep?"

Without looking up from the screen, "I guess"

"And this is your favourite colour right?"

"Hmmm..."

"How does it look on me?"

Joydeep looked up at Bhoomi, then the sari, and back at her, "Not your colour", and went back to work.

Eklavya had his head on a towel in Damini's lap, while she was massaging his temples and getting ready to put oil in his hair.

"You know beta, Nakul is younger than you"

"Yeah, so...?"

"So he's getting married in a couple of days"

"So...?"

"So don't you think it's time you..."

"Mom don't start all this again!"

"But beta, it's high time now. I have the perfect girl in mind too. All you need to do is meet her."

"Nothing doing mom. I'm not meeting any girl"

"But you have to get married sometime!"

"Mom, I'll get married when I find the right girl."

"Well what kind of right girl are you looking for?"

"Some girl who's smart, independent, sweet, funny and homely"

"Okay, and where will you find a girl like this Eklavya?"

"I'm sure she's out there somewhere mom"

"I'm here baa!" Kt called out to Tulsi from her room.

"Krishna what are you doing? You aren't even done packing yet?"

Kt hastily stuffed the last of her clothes into her bag and zipped it up, "Done! And with tons of time to spare."

"Now where will you guys stay? Do you know?"

"Yeah baa, Vaidehi's uncle has that house he doesn't use. He said we can stay there for as long as we want. And once we start earning, I guess we can pay him rent too."

"And if I find out that you've been doing any naughtiness Krishna, I will come there myself and set you straight.

"I'll miss you too baa" Kt said with a tearful smile, as Tulsi gave her a tight hug.

"Oh my god Kt! I can't believe we're actually going! I'm so excited"

"I know Vaidehi. But I'm so nervous. What if we can't make it in Mumbai? Then what?"

"You worry too much. Just chill. We can worry about that later. Let's concentrate on actually getting there first."

Vaidehi's parents came into her room with Tulsi. "Now don't forget to meet your badi maa once you get to Mumbai. Maybe she can help the both of you."

"Badi maa?" Tulsi asked with curiosity.

"Yeah, a really old friend of mine. She's Vaidehi's god-mother"

"Oh, I didn't know Vaidehi even had a god-mother"

"Well, Trupti has always stayed in Mumbai, and us here. But we correspond a lot"

Tulsi got a shock hearing Trupti's name. "It's can't be the same Trupti. I'm sure there's more than one Trupti in Mumbai. But what if it is...?"

Tulsi got pulled out of her thoughts as Vaidehi's parents started heading back to the sitting room, but was still very worried for her little Krishna-Tulsi.

Radha got home very late again. But with all this extra work, she would make just enough to get by for another month.

She entered a dark and silent Joshi house, trying not to wake anyone else up.

Stomach rumbling, she went into the kitchen and opened the fridge. Her face fell when she saw that there was virtually nothing in there. 1 roti on a plate, and a bowl of yogurt.

Radha took those out, and started eating.
