Nagpur Times 18 Feb 2008 Juhi's interview
For die-hard fans of Juhi Parmar, afternoons will not be the same again, at least for sometime. The popular actress and TV anchor has decided to take a well deserved break. NT catches up with her.
Chilling out
"I have been working nonstop for the last six years now. I just wish to chill out. I will travel, get up late, rejuvenate and simply enjoy my chutti. The idea is to get out of that mould of frantic activity and I know this break will help me to return in better physical shape and a positive frame of mind."
Try reminding her that most actresses who take a break from television, do not return to the small screen, and Juhi is
quick to retort, "Please get this right, I am not quitting the serial or working on television. I am just taking a short break and will be back on the show."
Her serial has been on the air for six years now. If she has got tired enough to take a break, won't the viewers also be tired of watching it? The actress agrees and says, "Of course when I am tired of playing the same role every day for so many years, the viewers too can get tired of watching the same thing. I personally feel that soaps should be of limited episodes, as this would keep them focused and even increase the pace of the story."
Reality bytes
Family soaps are losing out to reality shows in terms of popularity. What does Juhi feel about this? "It is true that reality shows have raced ahead of family soaps in terms of popularity. These shows are of shorter duration, involve the viewers, and offer something new. That's why they are more popular now," says she.
As soon as television stars gain popularity, they all eye the silver screen. What are Juhi's Bollywood plans? "I have many offers coming my way. I am reading scripts and considering a few of them, but nothing is sure as of now." Having said so, Juhi expresses her love and gratitude towards television as a medium. "There is little doubt that television gives us artistes tremendous popularity but Bollywood offers more opportunity to experiment with various genres," she adds.
Love and marriage
When Nach Baliye 3 went on air, Juhi was part of the programme and was to scout for a baliye from all over the country. But later we did not hear of it. What happened? "The participants did not want another jodi entering the contest at a later stage. Since I did not want to annoy anyone, I requested the channel to drop the concept," she informs. And what about a real life baliye for this pretty woman? "I am happily single at the moment,' she quips, adding, "So many of my friends have got married, but somehow I have not been able to find Mr Right as yet. I am waiting for love to happen, and when it does, I won't wait for a moment before taking the plunge."
